sparkeh Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Its past 3am, I cant sleep 'cos my head has been stuffed with cotton wool and my throat applied to a cheese grater then set on fire. Had this damn cold since Xmas, I think it might be terminal Anyone else feeling my pain?
SYNACK Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 I know your pain, I seem to get a whole heap of colds working at various primary schools with the standard questionable cleanleness that accompanies large groups of small children. The teachers of course get free imunisations but not the lower paid technical staff that work in the same hazardous environment. Hope it gets better soon.
kmount Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 I've had mine for about 6 weeks now and it's not shifting
sparkeh Posted January 19, 2009 Author Report Posted January 19, 2009 Great! I finally decide to take a day off to get over this and the bloody server falls over It was just waiting...
witch Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 The teachers of course get free imunisations but not the lower paid technical staff that work in the same hazardous environment. Immunisation against what? You can't immunise against the common cold, can you?
apoth0r Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 I had a headache all sunday (not entirely drink related!) so I went bed early last night and woke up feeling great. Typical.
rush_tech Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Immunisation against what? You can't immunise against the common cold, can you? This is true! It must be man flu sparkh:D
El_Nombre Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 I started working here in June, my first time working in a school. About half the time since September however I've been sick, having had two chest infections and regular bouts of man-flu. This is annoying as it keeps me from martial arts, from concentrating, lays me up at weekends so that I'm JUST ABOUT well enough to go back in on Mondays and get sick again. I was feeling a teensy bit better last Thursday until, whilst at BETT, some BUTTHOLE coughed in my face (I nearly punched the guy) and I was ill all weekend again. Still, I got some Silent Hill played so not a total loss. BLLELEeeeeeehhh though.
SYNACK Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Immunisation against what? You can't immunise against the common cold, can you? The vacine is for a whole bunch of the most common straines of the virus so that you are much less likely to suffer from the common ones that float around that particular season. You are right that it is not a total imunisation as the cold mutates so regularly that it slips past. It just gives you a good basis for defending against a good chunk of them even if they have mutated a little.
IanT Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 I was ill for 2 weeks before xmas..........I came into work
p858snake Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 (edited) I started working here in June, my first time working in a school. About half the time since September however I've been sick, having had two chest infections and regular bouts of man-flu. This is annoying as it keeps me from martial arts, from concentrating, lays me up at weekends so that I'm JUST ABOUT well enough to go back in on Mondays and get sick again. If you have air cons that you can control, try checking their filters and clean them, you shouldn't get that sick easily. Also have a look at the temp of your air con(/s) and if they are down low (eg: 16°C try lifting it up a bit) Edited January 19, 2009 by p858snake 1
El_Nombre Posted January 19, 2009 Report Posted January 19, 2009 Thanks dude - Just cleaned the filters out (which weren't all that dusty as the boss keeps them pretty clean) but I'm grateful for any advice that stops me being the biohazard I seem to be!
