Yes, I told them my parents were leaving and ended up with a Sky+ box and upgraded package.

Mind you, a few years service helped.

We got ours free, installed for free too. If you've been with them a while then you have more to play with. I told them I worked shifts and was missing out on what I wanted to watch on Sky and would therefore like to cancel. They explained Sky+, which I already knew about, but told them I couldn't afford to pay for the box and installation. They offered me a reconditioned box, which was actually new, and installation for free. A nice and helpful Scottish lady.

Must admit next time our box goes tits up I think instead of me buying / scrounging a recon box I will just phone up and have an oh I think I may leave option due to me being out a lot and see if I can scrounge a Sky+ box, I'd love a Sky+HD one really but if I'm out lots then how am I going to have time to watch all this HD tv lol

Think the idea is to hold your nerve and cancel.

My brother did it and cancelled, they phoned back within 10 minutes and offered free SKY+ and installation, about 6 months ago.

I am moving house for the second time in 6 months so I doubt they will put me another new dish up for nowt so I might have to try it myself.

If you have friends/relatives with sky, and are a new subscriber - they'll give you a new sky+ box.

We signed up to Sky in September, referred by my parents - they got £50 M&S vouchers (which they gave to me) and we got a free Sky+ box, with £30 installation.

If you're moving, you might be able to cancel, and then sign up as a new customer at the new address - just don't give them the new address!

I told them I wanted to cancel and got sky+ installed with box for £49 however you get vary levels of success as they know what people are trying to do.

My sister in law tried the same thing and said she wanted to cancel and so they did just that and she hasn't heard anything since.

Someone else in the family cancelled for 8 months while he was working and didn't have time to watch and then they offered him free sky+ etc... after that.

its all about holding your nerve

plus only listen to offers from the cancellation department!

when our standard sky plus box broke i rang up and asked for repair and they said it would cost £80!

after some umming and erring they halfed that to £40

but i insisted i wouldnt pay and told them to put me through to cancellations!

i insisted due to them trying to charge for repairs i was going to leave and got a free sky plus box and a free install, but the guy just happend to mention alot of people were leaving due to the credit crunch :D muhaha i kept pushing and got a free month an £5 knocked off every month.
