Anyone give me a convicing reason to goto to BETT, other than silly give aways?

Sounds more like a jolly boys day out on Tax Payers expense to me :p

Does your school have a 3 year development plan? Is IT included in there? What initiatives or Govt agendas are directly affecting you right now? How do the services and facilities you provide make a difference to the achievement and attainment of the students?

Can you answer all of these? No? In which case there is something to be gained by coming to BETT. You might not get all the answers, but it will help you with where to look.

And that is before you get the chance to hassle your suppliers, find new ones (or at least give your existing suppliers the impression you have new options ... possibly making them re-think some of their pricing, delivery or implementation strategies!) and laugh at old ones that you dropped as they were useless (it has been known for some people to go to particular stands and ask awkward questions ... possibly even being asked to get off the stand ... no names mentioned!)

There aren't that many freebies anymore ... most people have switched on to the fact that you don't get much return on freebies. We are slightly different ... we are not intending to get a return ... we just want to say 'thank you' to everyone instead. :D

From a supplier's PoV, it is also nice to build relationships with our users - the amount of feedback we get at BETT is fantastic - so when our friends come and see us, they know there's a good chance they'll get improved service, product or sales next year!

The other thing to remeber is that for the people on the stands it is exhausting. When Tony, Shaun, Ric and I had our 'End of BETT' meal on the Saturday night at a small Thai place just over the road from our hotel we were absolutely shattered, and conversation was at a minimum. It is very, very hard work for us. It is easier in certain ways as we are not there to meet sales targets, but when we have you guys 3 deep at the stand we know it is all worthwhile. Oh, and that's another point. After last BETT there were a lot of members who passed us by because they felt they would inconvenience us, Please stop and chat, we're not scary (well most of us), and love to put names to faces. Remebr EduGeek is a community and to lots of us that means something. We are there to put you voices into places you can't usually reach and talk to people that are very important to IT in education who otherwise would not be able to hear your views.

The freebies look good :) Does the mug come with the nice cup of tea in it as well :D (Actually I don't need the mug as I've got one from the northern conference somewhere on my desk at home) but looking good :)
