FN-GM Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Hello I was driving home from work last week and the annual Christmas lights are going up on peoples houses. Some of them look good, some are far over done. I thought i would run my own little contest (with a prize). The idea is to post your photographs of the most over done houses with Christmas lights you see on your way to work. I will post mine tomorrow. Z
Gatt Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 OK here are two for you all - This is a house near my brother (in law)'s house
jcollings Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 OK here are two for you all - This is a house near my brother (in law)'s house Bloody hell! Does it go dim around the rest of the area when "Billy" switches on?
jcollings Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 There is a cracker just off the M6 opposite Lancaster University. Trouble is you have to drive up the M6 to see it so not sure how I'm going to snatch a photo. Can you do 70 mph one handed and looking in the wrong direction on the motorway? Thinking about it I probably can but not for long!
Gatt Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Bloody hell! Does it go dim around the rest of the area when "Billy" switches on? Lol! i dread to think what his 'leccy bill must be! If you look at it during the day - he has actually got it all on scaffolding (6ft High on the roof I reckon..) Just glad we don't live opposite him!
Little-Miss Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 How tacky.... I hate it when people dont take them down and you can still see Santa in the middle of august..
Gatt Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 agreed on both counts! Though TBH, we don't take our lights down from above the window.. though at least you cant see them against the soffits! (they are only a small LED set)
DrPerceptron Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Santa's for life, not just for christmas. or is that dogs? I always get them mixed up... Newport Pagnell has an area that usually looks 'pretty'... sadly, I live nowhere near there I remember finding a single street somewhere in the US (Christmas Lights are MASSIVE in the states - that's why they're struggling economically ) and every house is plastered in sparkly lights...

Yep really big thing in the States. I'm sure we all saw [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IK90Ys2LhSo]YouTube - Wizards of Winter[/ame] This was a major exercise, all computer controlled. Did read the technical stuff somewhere once. And the music was transmitted over FM so people could sit in their cars, tune the radio to correct frequency and hear the music, so that the neighbours didn't have to listen to the stuff all the time. There are some decorated houses locally, I'll take some pics when I'm able.
powdarrmonkey Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 There's an enormous house just up the road from me that's covered in them, and all down the garden (I'm surprised anyone can walk up the drive...) but it's a busy road, if I can stop in the right place sometime I'll get it.
sidewinder Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 Theres a ridiculous one just across the road from me, if I can be bothered I'll take a pic. I do like outside lights, like some in trees and stuff, but people go way over the top
Gatt Posted December 8, 2008 Posted December 8, 2008 (edited) ....but people go way over the top My (disowned) mother for one The house was plastered in tinsel, hanging decs, santas grottos trees, lights, baubles.. - then she started outside - sihloettes (sp?) all over the wall, lights round every tree/shurb/bush.. You name the dec she had it - there wasn't a single room whcih wasn't tinselised.. Thankfully H and I are more subtle - we have 1 string of outdoor lighhts around the window a tree (see pics) and some lights round our bed.. Only one bit of tinsel - round the aerial of our car Edited December 8, 2008 by Gatt
