Pupil: Erm.... er...... can't remember Gary I get this Pupil: I've lost my work Me: You mean you've deleted it Pupil: No I didn't delete it I than expalin only two people can delete their work themsleves or me and I still get, 'Well I didn't delete it' So its round the circle again and it usually transpires they've left the machine logged on and walked away for a while and one of their classmates has helped by deleteing all their work.

We have whiteboards that suddenly stop responding, plug the cable into another USB port and it works. Plug back into the original port and its OK again. My sons laptop has about 5 USB ports and the USB mouse only works in one of them! And a different make of USB mouse doesn't work at all! We've seen USB pen drives that work OK on one machine and not on another. And USB cables that the general public are getting ripped of with. A standard 1.8 metre is £15 from PC World!!! I keep telling staff to visit Tesco as the same cable is less than £2. I've sourced for school at about 80p. so the £15 PCW charge seems a bit excessive, to say the least.

Why couldn't it have been made hermaphrodite? Why do we have to deal with at least 3 miniature versions? For FSMs sake, we have about 200 MILLION transistors stuffed onto graphics boards and we still can't standardize connectors? I'm off to lie down in a dark room far a while....
Little-Miss Posted December 7, 2008 Posted December 7, 2008 You know what i really hate.....i hate the twiddly screw thingys on VGA connections.....such a stupid idea..i find them impossible to undo and if someones done it too tight you end up taking the screw of the board its connected too....

The ones on the new DVI connectors simply don't. eSATA connectors are remarkably easy to pull out, too - there seems little point in inventing fancy new high-speed interface standards if the connectors fall out if you sneeze. -- David Hicks

C13/C14 power plugs and sockets should definitely have some sort of metal clip or retainer as standard for when connecting server/storage PSU's to power strips. You invest thousands of pounds on fancy UPS, you invest hundreds - sometimes thousands - on PDU's/power strips to hook up all your vital servers and they furnish the PDU/strip with nothing to stop the power cord from being knocked out. Even with good rear cable mgmt you can knock out a power cord. A lot of server PSU's don't have any retaining clips either. The old Xserve RAID used to, but none of our x86 server come supplied with one. I think it's a really poor showing.
