laptop screen shows video while interactive whiteboard won't

weird one here, According to a teacher they have been showing the class educational videos on an interactive whiteboard for almost two years but in the last two weeks the video only shows up on the laptop screen and not on the interactive whiteboard where there is just a blank space. The teacher first had this problem with realplayer and so switched to windows media player which worked for several days before having the same problem. Have tried resolution changes, setting the board as primary display and fiddling round with different players but suspect possible p.i.c.n.i.c

meanwhile the teacher is blaming me

any ideas?

You have tried the(function) fn button and display button? if that dont fix it try updating the display driver on the laptop. had similar problem last week.

Wot make of laptop is it?

 

I suspect it's a Toshiba, as I have seen this before.

 

Change the display to projector only and it should work.

 

If not (having seen it more then once!) check the screen res, I have had one where the laptop was wide screen and the projector didn't like it at all, would show the 'normal' images, but not any video clips.

agree with the overlay suggestion.

 

If you open windows media player you can disable it by tools -> options -> performance tab -> advanced button -> untick use overlays

thanks for the help, will try this but i still dont understand how this problem came up. i mean it displays everything except video fine on the whiteboard and its only been recently that this problem happened. For some reason you cant only display to the whiteboard, its a bit like the vga out on the laptop is just like a splitter connection from the graphics card with the other end going to the screen so i guess its a software problem and not the hardware.

if its a Dell laptop they have problems displaying video AND and internal screen.

 

Try hooking the laptop up to a normal LCD screen and then the Fcn F5 or F7 to toggle between the screens.

 

This is ONLY when playing video. if you have the external screen only it works and vice versa, but not both at the same time.

 

Something to do with insufficient video memory.

Pritty mush all our Stone laptops of a couple years age and some Stone PCs have this problem,

Fix's that normally work are

Disabling overlays in media play

Reducing the Hardware Alc

and updating the Grpahics driver on the PCs (didnt work on laptops)

 

I have a custom ADM template to turn off overlays if you want it, just drop me a line

Also, not for this particular problem, but similar vein so worth noting for future search results of such issues...

 

Check that you're using a VGA D-Sub port for the projector, not composite (yellow phono connection) or SVHS (4pin mini-din). If using composite/SVHS output, ensure the video you're watching isn't copyright protected or find drivers / tweak to disable the graphics driver's macrovision protection, which will cause black screen on composite output when copyrighted material is played.

 

Usually happens with retail DVDs rather than stuff that's been ripped / converted / playing online etc.

same sort of thing (look at first entry) but this time its not with video clips but with dvds. The overlay is off and all other settings are norm

im sure that it doesnt work however the overlay is set however it makes all the difference for video clips

maybe its the copywrite thing causing it but how do i stop his if its from a dvd, after all its worked on the same laptop in the past and this problem only came up once the overlay thingy happened.

try installing VLC and see if that will play DVDs. It could be a codec issue?

Also check if the display driver has been updated recently.

 

Another issue with some laptop/projector combinations is that unless the projector is both connected to the laptop and switched on before the laptop then the laptop will not output anything to the projector.
