Office 2003 - Publisher

Hi All,

 

We seem to be having a problem with Publisher 2003 at present. Students are creating "Bands" and need the associated literature, they are creating Contact Cards, Flyers/Posters and CD Covers in Publisher however the following happens.

 

Contact Cards (Publisher default template) - Fails to print, Publisher closes on an error

CD Covers (Custom template set by ICT teacher) - Fails to print, Publisher closes on an error

Poster/Fly (Publisher default template) - Prints correctly

 

Problem seems intermittent, last week Student A was able to print her CD Cover on Machine 8, however this week student A cannot print her CD Cover on Machine 8.

 

Problem is affecting around 50 Machines in the ICT suites.

 

Any ideas, or reason why it wont print some templates.

 

(Printers Upstairs and Downstairs are both HP2605N's

I am guessing it's to do with drivers more than anything. I recently learned the HP2605 are problematic as hell as they have limited font support and only PCL6 drivers.

I suppose the only way to test it is another machine with a different printer. We have a Magic Colour 2300W, shall try it on that and check.

 

Possible causes:

 

- Printer Drivers

- Page layout

- Font issues with the 2605

 

I guess I can troubleshoot these trying a different printer.

Another suggestion is some kind of memory problem. Publisher files going to print can be huge (it's all the pictures!)

 

Try using the Compress Pictures button on the picture toolbar and compress 'All pictures' to 'print resolution'.

 

Does that fix it?

Just tried that as per suggestion and still no luck. Publisher closes on a nice error, but debug/error code messages googled yield nothing "Unexpected Closure"
