kmount Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 Very pleased with this release, seems a lot more polished than 8.04. Been playing with the RC today with latest updates and it seems very nice indeed. Took a bit of a kick to make VMWare Server work but liking the idea of partner repos to fix the ever irritating java in firefox on x64 issues. Definitely worth a go, even shoved xubuntu onto my eee to make it do something useful.

I had to select only MSCHAP, turn on encryption (automatic), pick stateful encryption, edit gconf to prevent EAP, not save my password, not fill in the domain but instead use domain\username. phew! ChrisH Posted October 30, 2008 Posted October 30, 2008 My update didn't work properly. I ended up uninstalling the NVidia driver then Gnome sprang into life on the reboot phew!
sparkeh Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 Just this minute finished. First thoughts? The wifi light now works on my Latitude D520! No distro has ever managed this (yeah yeah small things and simple people) Wow just noticed it flashes with activity! Never did that in windows...!

jmcdermott Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Still seems to have the major bug that if you run it as a standard peer to peer machine (not adding it to the domain) you can't see windows shares, so unless you know the share name you can't access them. Think i will stay with Gutsy Gibbon for a while longer.

RabbieBurns Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Went for a reinstall rather than an upgrade. First install was a duff cd image, which I should have really checked for before installing. Re-downloaded and installed no problem. 99% of the hardware on my laptop works out the box. Not tried the webcam yet or the fingerprint reader, and Fn + F7 doesnt work to switch between notebook screen and external monitor. All other fn keys work, brightness and volume etc (which dont in XP after a downgrade from vista) Compiz or whatever beryl is called now works well (although i cant seem to do the 'peel window back from the corner' thing that I used to be able to do??) Anyone recommend some places to get some nice themes/desktops etc, the default orange is a bit bland

webman Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 From previous experience, Ubuntu is notorious for screwing up X after upgrades, particularly if you use the nVidia driver. I always backup my /home and do a full reinstall to avoid upgrade-hell.

teejay Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 Got stuffed iso images with both desktop and alternate downloads. Have downloaded the mini iso which lets you install by downloading the files direct from the repositries, working a treat now.
