Yes lets lose all the old timers because the site has become magnolia and they don't fit in with the new Corporate aganda...

Remamber mate the board might be privatly owned but without the members it's nothing... so don't be too smug

:feedtroll:

Your choice of emote seems apt. I'm not saying 'lose the old timers' I'm saying a very simple line:

This site is not your playground. Stop being selfish and realise that the thousands of other people on here risk losing it as a useful resource in school if childish and inappropriate behaviour is common.

I use the site less and less, because of censorship issues and the fact that the site has lost some of independence. The biggie for me was the site admins views on BSF.

But I am just repeating myself from things I already said a while ago.

Time to drift away again.

Surely the site is for all Educational IT professionals not just you school techs, about time some of you grew up and acted sensible just like us College techs. Or if you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined...

*yawn* Is your life really that boring that trying to rile people up on a website is the highlight of your day? OK, you want to use metaphors - then have you thought of yourself as the disruptive kid in the class that doesn't understand the work, so is disrupting everything the Teacher is trying to do, because they think it "looks cool" with their mates, then cries that they're being picked on when they get told off for it? If we're the primary school hall monitors, then you're the naughty little boy that spends half his time outside the Head's office because he's incapable of reasonable behaviour.

So basically freedom of speech is dead on the Edugeek boards because you don't like what I say.. and yes I am entitled to my opinion and my opinion is that sometimes the moderation on this board is a childish as a Primary School Hall monitor..

Opps sorry forgot we aren't allowed to have an opinion here or Diello will lock the thread..

also you locked a thread where board members were expressing their dissatisifaction with te moderation of this board and you lock it ... ROFLMAO

:feedtroll:

You ever actually looked at freedom of speech law? Think you'll find it doesn't say you can say whatever you like, whenever you like. That's why slander laws exist, inciting racial hatred etc., anywhere you look, there are limits on freedom of speech.

It has nothing to do with me not liking what you're saying. Rule - No swearing, you read that, your next post contains an outright expletive, and basically a "hey, watch me get an infraction for breaking the rules!". Then you cry fowl because a stop is put on it and whine about your freedom of speech. What about people's right to come here without you swearing, trolling, and mouthing off all the time? What about DB's right to impose whatever rules he sees fit on the Board?

Actually - the thread had stopped being about people complaining about the moderation - If you actually read it, an answer had been given, and people had largely been happy with that and moved on, it was only you who thought it'd be fun to drag it all up again and start swearing, that's why it got locked.

As has been said, if you don't like it here, you know where the door is - or like I said, are you just trying to pull a suicide by cop and get banned, then claim "o woe me" again?

I think the phrase here is - Put up, or shut up.

Children! Children!

You lot are worse than my two teenagers!

Yes, I'm an "old-timer". Yes, I was in favour of closing the other thread before those with hot tempers lost control...

The way I feel at the moment; perhaps eduGeek should start charging for membership. Then those who only want to play rough might decide their money would be better spent elsewhere.

Age doesn't come into it. Attitude does.

GROW UP YOU LOT!

Or it'll be early to bed without any TV or computer time tonight!

Grommit, c'mon man you are just getting boring now. The same nonsense and insulting other members is dull.

Can you just answer one thing? Why are you still here if you hate it so much?

@Mattx: I have, he used tounges & never said thank you.

First they came for the Grommit,

- but I was not a fun guy like him so I did not speak out.

Then they came for the Mattx and Hightower,

- but I was neither, so I did not speak out.

Then they came for the Wise Cracking Old Members,

- but I was not a Wise Cracking Old Member so I did not speak out.

And when they came for me, there was no one left to speak out for me.

Hmmmm, could we have a judgement call on a Godwin-by-proxy here? It isn't an outright Godwin but it does seem to be a stealth tactical strike.

Freedom of speech comes with responsibility. Don't like up to your responsibilities, and you lose the freedom.

Very apt after all this is a free site managed for us to broaden our knowledge.

The thing that is actually funny about this, a lot of you guys have never met each other yet you get angry about stuff thats said... people take this forum all too personal.

If you strip all of the emotion from this discussion thread, it boils down to the simple fact that there are laws which protect individuals from libel & slander and sites like this have to operate within the law.

The site also requires commercial sponsorship to continue to operate; this carries with it the responsibility to ensure that sponsors & their products and services are treated fairly. That is not to say that there should never be any criticism, but where members feel it is necessary to publically criticise they should at all times operate within the law.

If everyone applies a degree of decency & common sense in their posts this site would need little or no moderation and then there would be no risk of over zealous or too-heavy handed moderation (aka censorship). Someone earlier suggested more use of the Preview Post button, I think this is sound advice.

Freedom of speech and censorship are at the opposite ends of a pendulum, and we need to aim to be somewhere in the middle of the swing......

Yes it seems to me that any opinion or anything that isn't towing your version of the party line.... you class as trolling.. which is sad..

Then I could do the same back to you and class you saying that "this is not a democracy and this is private forum"... inflamatory and thus trolling

This site does not require sponsorship to survive... we can host this board on a hosting company for £50 per year which a lot of us would gladly pay for.. or take it from the BETT fund

The sponsorship is only here because some people want to make money from Edugeek and all this new censorship is to protect thier financial intrests and not for the goodwill of the board

Never said I hated the site I hate the new censorship and moderation for capital gain...

and as I said before I would rather die than become Magnolia :troll:

Never said I hated the site

Fair enough, you never said the word 'hate' but I can infer your attitude from these comments:

This place is starting to blow

someone decided to take this good thing and corporarise it into what it has turned into..

This is what I am talking about ... this this ..it's so... dross... pathetic...

the site has become magnolia

The reason this board got so big was that it was good fun and a bit of crack... but then someone decided to take this good thing and corporarise it into what it has turned into..

This is it isn't it... You genuinely believe that everyone uses this forum as a doss house for people to like "hang out, man" and there's no other reason for it.

For my money and it's my opinion, this place is more about professional resources than for general blather. I joined for that very reason, I've contributed for that very reason and I'll continue to contribute for that reason. All the FFS stuff or general chatter, is just window dressing IMHO.

Right... work... and hit ignore, I'm done wasting my high horse time on this, anyone else want my noble steed? :bored:

Here here. "ALL" members contribute to the site, we browse, we talk, we help, we pay for the site with ad revenue, without contribution the site would be nothing.

And previous to Mods and one rule for one etc, I think Diello needs to get off his high horse. (And you know what I mean, I've spoken to mods about being infracted for a sinister swear word when blatant abusers get no infraction, "We'll look into it and publish new rules etc, no one should be treated differently etc etc" Well its been a few months.

Damn... I'd almost hit ignore..

You really haven't a flippin' clue have you... £50 a year ROFLMAO...:eek::rolleyes:

Can someone please provide the bandwidth and hard drive space requirement, backup facilities, etc... this place requires to shoot this one down in flames.

Ok... I'm done... but good grief... £50! ... priceless.. :drunken_smilie::drunken_smilie:

Sorry to offend.. I was just reply as I was reading......

Look I'm giving up on this effort to relax the censorship a bit on this board as there seems to quite a few members here that would find a WI meeting exciting and fullfilling so I'm up against Magnolia..... so that's it...

There is no way I can even try to have any type of connection with these people as I despise them....

So that's it... moderate away, hand out the infractions and noddy badges .. censor away......that the last you'll hear from me on the subject..

OK... we're obviously both not on the same planet... Care to explain exactly where I've been on a "high horse"?

£50... interesting... I suggest the next EduGeek conference be held on a local street corner then... we should easily be able to afford that with our high-income £50... Not a clue some people.

I was just going to say the same thing, get real £50 a month wouldn't even cover the requirements of edugeek I wouldn't have thought.
