Chuckster Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 I recently setup a server for a play around and gave it the IP address of x.x.x.3. The computer name was random, e.g. server28230984. I rebuilt the server yesterday and this time gave it a proper name of "Test Server" and tried to give it the same IP: x.x.x.3 My problem is I'm not able to give it this IP since it's already being used. I've checked the DHCP but our scope starts from x.x.x.45 - x.x.x.253 How can I delete the x.x.x.3 so that I can re-issue it to the newly rebuilt server?
FN-GM Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 How do you mean its being used? Do you get an error message when you try and give it a static address?
Chuckster Posted October 12, 2008 Author Posted October 12, 2008 I get an error message saying it's already in use and the LAN icon in the taskbar shows a big red X or question mark - can't remember which.
RabbieBurns Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 try pinging .3 from another location see if it replies then arp -a to get the mac address of it if it is actually replying
Sylv3r Posted October 12, 2008 Posted October 12, 2008 Delete the old entry from the DNS server unless you scavenge the DNS.
