kennysarmy Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 I've checked my DNS settings on one of our DC's called FP2. Is it right that there should be multiple entries in the reverse look-up zones. (Screenshot attached.) I also have problems mapping a drive to a server called "ilibra" when I attempt to map a drive from my workstation I get the reply "there are currently no logon servers to service the logon request" If I go to this server and run NSLOOKUP these are the results: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>NSLOOKUP Default Server: dns1-int.swgfl.ifl.net Address: 62.171.194.104 > fp2 Server: dns1-int.swgfl.ifl.net Address: 62.171.194.104 *** dns1-int.swgfl.ifl.net can't find fp2: Non-existent domain > The ilibra server has two network cards set as: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>ipconfig /all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : ILIBRA Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : curriculum.local Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : No WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : curriculum.local Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Intel® PRO/1000 MT Network Connection Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-04-23-DE-D2-38 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.7.43.150 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.252.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 62.171.194.104 10.7.43.152 Ethernet adapter Router: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Generic Marvell Yukon Chipset based Gigab it Ethernet Controller Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-04-23-DE-D2-39 DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.7.40.1 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.252.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.7.43.254 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 62.171.194.104 62.171.194.105 C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator> Any ideas?
Geoff Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 A DC's DNS settings should point to itself as the primary DNS server and another DC as the secondary DNS server. This is so it can register itself in DNS. Because yours can't, you are getting the errors you posted.
kennysarmy Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 FP2 which is one of my DC's the other being FP3 seems to have the correct values.... fp2 = 10.7.43.152 fp3 = 10.7.43.153 the member server ilibra has the ipconfig info in the original post. it is the ilibra server i cannot map a drive to... regards
Geoff Posted October 3, 2008 Posted October 3, 2008 All client machines (servers, desktops, laptops, whatever) in an AD network must use the DC's DNS server as their primary/secondary. Your RBCs DNS servers should only be used as forwarders in your DC's DNS server setup. If you've checked this and are still having issues install the support tools and run DCdiag/Netdiag and post the results.
kennysarmy Posted October 3, 2008 Author Posted October 3, 2008 Thanks...will check - dig about and report back
