What if its got no water in and you switch it on!

thats what a sensor is for - detect water level if water level is below this level then device wont turn on, if it is then water will boil as the device will be switched on ( Device being the kettle in this case obviously )

Actually I started an automated kettle once, with: a tea maid thing that my parents used to have; an asterisk phone system; a mains relay; and a door release gadget with a phone interface. Nearly worked :(

You definitely win the "Epic thread necro with relevant post by original poster" award, good work! Considering you haven't posted here for four years, I salute you :peace:

I can see the though process now. "OMG a WOL kettle!! I knew I wasn't crazy. I'm off to tell those fools at Edugeek I was right all long"

Show the manufactures this thread and try to claim royalties for the idea.

I want a WOL Toaster and a WOL Mini Oven as well.....

They all need to interface so the toaster can tell the kettle to boil at the right time so they they finish in perfect sync.

iKettle - buy at Firebox.com

And they said I was crazy...

You still have to re-fill or ensure water is in that kettle and I couldn't hear the audio but you would still presumably have to make your own tea and coffee with sugar etc anyway, not to mention pouring milk in and the other stuff in the correct order and with tea , remove the tea bags etc
