Laptops for pupils ans staff use

Question for anyone with these damed laptops for pupils which I hope will be a lot. We currently have a numbe of shall we call them 'spares' that haven't been distrubuted. Does anyone know if we can allow staff to use if we are short of admin laptops?

 

I understand there will be more of these distibuted to schools, they are a nightmare!! How are other schools dealing with them?

I wouldnt have thought so. The laptops are assigned to particular who meet a certain criteria. Or at least that is my understanding of things.

Something I'm looking at with last years batch of returned year 11 issues. Our LEA isn't renewing the internet connection or cyberpatrol on them and the school can't afford it. Wondering whether I can swing a few staff issues to prevent me having to purchase new machines...cheaper to upgrade these.

As much as I hate these laptops it seems odd to drop the internet connction as that is part of the reason they were getting these computers because the government want to give people who cant' afford it internet access.

 

We have one parent who phoned in complaining the internet wouldn't work on the laptop and it must be the laptop that is at fault because the 3G card we supplied works great on their other laptop!!

I think if you have any spares after you have provided them for your identified students, you should look at your whole school priorities - Raising Boys Achievement, Independant learning etc and provide laptops to fit your priorities.
