DHCP Red Herring - help needed

Hi

 

Will try to explain (Telephones argh!).

 

PC1 on 10.60.20.3 can talk to PC21 on 10.60.21.4 but neither can talk to phone system card on 10.60.30.4

 

1st time I've heard of 10.60.30.*

 

Phone guy thinks I need to do something to my DHCP server to tell it about 10.60.30.* so PC1 and PC21 and talk to phone system card.

 

I think it's something to do with the Cisco switch that the phone system's network cables plug into.

 

The servers that are on 10.60.20.* and 10.60.21.* are pluged into said Cisco switch and working quite happily though.

It might be DNS, check to see if you have a 10.60.30.* reverse lookup zone.

 

can you ping the 10.60.30.4?

Sounds to me either VLAN'ing issue or subnet mask issue. For example,I'm guessing that PC1 & PC21 have subnet masks of 255.255.254.0 so they can see each other. As you mention that you havnt seen 10.60.30.* until now this would sound possible.

Has the telephone system been in long? Do you know if you have a seperate VLAN for phones? Do you have a router your able to change configuration on?

My guess is the subnet not being large enough to take in the 10.60.30.x address range from 10.60.20.x I'd guess as above it is set to 255.255.254.0 try changing the subnet on one of the PCs to 255.255.240.0 and you'll probably find they will talk to each other.
