Some do negotiate more but from my experience that's a 'standard' figure. Hmm I wouldnt have thought so these days. Maybe 5 years ago. Still theres always those that dont keep up with the times.

conehead Posted September 22, 2008 Author Posted September 22, 2008 Hey don't shoot the messenger I spotted this on the local jobs bulletin, and thought it may interest someone. I think the description is a bit vauge and I'm wondering what they mean by "network manager" anyway. To be honest the money doesn't look too bad for this neck of the woods if it is after a pro-rata, and the way the local Council pay and grade review is going it's going to look even better. Not saying it's right or fair, just the way it is currently.

The latest edition of PC pro has the average salaries for IT jobs across the UK The lowest of which was a junior Administrator at £19950 and junior tech support £26621 as for experienced managers its around the £40k-50k mark A senior manger in the school has been telling me for the last 5 years IT salaries are about to come down.. I think not to my level anyway I would've thought anywhere between 23k-30k would be a reasonable salary for ICT Manager in the Greater Manchester area anyway... but the job at Sharples... when I saw the LEA jobs bulletin I thought it was going to be a techies job with a bumped up post title to attract people but they do actually want a ICT Manager. I think I earn the same and I'm just a tech. The sad thing is some poor gimp will take the job to boost his / her cv and the school will get a totally distorted view of the the job and its value...

evil-tom Posted October 14, 2008 Posted October 14, 2008 My feeling is that it should relate to the environment and the size of the setup. Managing people as well as machines does add a whole layer of complexity. If you look at a job and like it - but the pay is too low - then I have to admit that I've had no shame in writing to the employer telling them that I'm not applying for the job because it's not being paid enough. I've had some interesting responses - and seen the post re-advertised at a higher grade. It got me my current position. T
FastEddieGT4 Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I cant see anyone who would take on network manager responsibilities go for a salary thats more in line with a technician!! The Pay and Grading for the 'IT Manager' family iin Bolton is scale 7 (used to be SO1)... Anyways I only spoke to the technician from Sharples on Thursday (who wants to step into the job) and he is already on that salary... maybe a bit more.... Just my pennys worth
