School intranets

We use a product called 'Schoolnet' at the moment, produced by a guy at Yewlands High School. So far it's little more than a room booking system. We was using the Helpdesk, but things of got lax... We need to get on top of Intranets, helpdesks, etc here - when we get the time amongst the billion and one other jobs.

Sharepoint For the win!

 

replaced staff briefings with daily news feed.

Brought in fault logging for it/caretaking/media

produced independant sites for various whole school prjects.

 

And its totally AD integrated, so all the permissioning, etc is easy

Looking at updating though, hopefully sharepoint. Currently have IT bookings, urgent notices, cover sheet, links to online resources per department, our FAQ, a homework hand in system, policies, feeder school info. All sorts of goodness.

If you add http://172.24.32.4 into your intranet zones in IE then navigate to http://172.24.32.4

WIKI for the ICT Support Team

Kayako as our ICT Helpdesk

and Sharepoint with SIMS webparts as our Staff / Student / Parent Intranet

 

All web based and available externally via the internet.

We have a mashup of Drupaled moodle and mediawiki.

I've just set up a basic staff intranet using wordpress, as it's dead simple! Because it's basically a blogging application, it's really easy for admin people to go in, type a new article and submit it, no complecations there at all. It also has shortcuts to our ICT helpdesk, school website, webmail, Eclipse library system and google so it's a good starting point for staff. Students at the moment just get a crude HTML page with shortcuts on to the different systems.

 

It doesn't look that impressive, it could be better if I had more time to spend on it, but it's really only a stop gap until we get our full VLE in place which will hopefully be sharepoint based, and take over as the starting page for all.

I'm using sharepoint but I'm going to say that anyway ;-)

We just use Apache/Mysql/PHP for the College website and intranet.

Wordpress for the student/staff announcements

Moodle for our E-Learning.

 

We also have a FT webmaster.
