We have around 25 POS tills in our schools communicating with Fusion in the Cloud, running Win 10 Ent 2016 LTSB.  Obviously this OS is going EOS in Oct. 2026 and therefore we need to look at moving to Win 11 IoT Enterprise LTSC.  With that being said, has anyone performed a successful Win 11 upgrade on a SAM4S SPT-4856 or Oxhoo Onix 200 till?  Were additional drivers required and if so, who supplied them?  I've been advised by the manufacturer that Cunninghams would need to supply them, but despite having software and hardware maintenace in place, CRB are unable / unwilling to supply - proposing a replacement of the tills (at a cost of course!).  Likewise, any temporary replacement tills (even supplied after Oct. 2026) will only be supplied with Win 10 Ent 2016 LTSB.

Arguably the SAM4S units are underspec'd for Win 11 and therefore a replacement may be necessary.  If you have upgraded to another model, did you buy from Cunninghams or elsewhere?  Any recommendations would be appreciated.

In part I understand the argument that the school is responsible for the ongoing support of the operating system, but feel that Cunninghams have a stranglehold over schools that cannot upgrade if indeed we are reliant on them providing drivers etc. for the touchscreen/biometric/barcode scanner.  The conversation with Cunninghams has been going back and forth now for well over two years, and they still haven't given a clear response.

We don't use CRB but both the SAM4S and the Oxhoo are not compatible with windows 11, they don't have the minimum spec of processor as far as I know.

Its worth upgrading and will make a difference the only gripe i have is the pricing they charge for them and the lack of support for 3rd party tills!

For price and coverage its robbery but they dont let us use a Touchscreen AIO or ePos which is like a quarter of the price.

If they had better phone line support and more suitable responsive hours i wouldnt complain.

We use a different vendor.

FWIW:

Out tills were 5+ years old, we could have moved to ESU, but  the arguement that "this needs to be somebody else's problem" won out,  and we replaced all the tills with vendor supplied (and managed) Win11IoT based ones.

There are so many other things that can go wrong with old hardware, and tills are a critical part of the school's  revenue stream. You have better things to be doing with the IT Service's team's time than *increasing* institutional risk.  Just have the vendor replace them.
