Issues with Sophos and Wireless Casting

We're deploying iPad devices to teachers and we're using wireless casting to Promethean TVs, CTOUCH TVs etc.

One issue I have ran into is that on the i3Connect devices, Miracast and wireless sharing options don't show up properly. I know this is a wireless issue, as when I change the wireless on the tablet and TV to my hotspot, they recognise each other straight away and I can connect. If I swap back to the onsite WiFi, it can't find it again.

 

Does anyone know or had experience with an issue like this? And how we can go about unblocking this connection through Sophos so it works on the standard WiFi?

Not used these devices, but would hazard a guess related to certain ports / URLs being blocked...???

You could also use Sophos Firewall Log Viewer, filtered by device(s)' IP address to see which traffic is being allowed / blocked. Although if being blocked by the default / last rule (Drop All) that does not log, so may have to create a rule above specifically for the devices' IP (as Source network and devices) with Action = Drop and Log Firewall Traffic enabled so you can see which and what type of requests are being blocked.

Multicast streaming? Different wifi/vlans? No mDNS repeater. 

 

Only thing thats ever really scuppered stuff was that when I was doing fun stuff at home with casting.

They are on the same WiFi. Just not sure what is wrong - thats why I used my hotspot as its unfiltered.

It looks like it may be linked to ports on the 2.4/5GHz and certain ports needing to be open or closed.

I'll keep an eye and test more too.
