Been thinking about doing a Scuba try dive / Open Water Course (i know someone who's soon to be an instructor as he has made it sound really good).

Whilst doing some research it made me think of asking if there was anyone here who does it

And was looking for thoughts / experiences

Yes..., Well, I was few years back (still have all the gear which spent a small fortune on. Buddy Commando / Cressi BCDs, dry suit, masks, snorkel, fins, 12l cylinders + Apeks XTX regs, 3l pony cylinder + Apeks XTX regs, diving watch, knife, gloves, DSMB, weights / harness etc. - Yes, you can get good second hand kit etc. just ensure it's serviced!)

Joined local BSAC Diving Club, started out indoor (e.g. pool) then quarry, shore and sea diving etc.

BSAC Ocean Diver then progressed to BSAC Sports Diver.

Check out you local diving club (e.g. BASC / PADI) as they normally do taster events etc, and take it from there!

Definitely do it.  Nothing quite like slowly freefalling down to a reef or wreck safe in the knowledge no-one* can bother you for ~30 to 45 mins (depending on air consumption and depth).

This is me trying to make sure our students behaved around a green turtle, while also trying to film it on a point-and-hope GoPro.

*OK, technically you can get paired with a buddy who wants to spend the next 30 mins photographing one specific nudibranch, but photographers usually get paired together.
