Asset Management query

Hello,

 

Apologise if this is not the correct area to post this in.

 

I wanted to ask what other organisations use for an Asset Management system please.

 

We have Lansweeper installed for a long time which my colleagues have been using for this, but it was never designed to be an asset management system.

 

If anyone has any experience or knowledge they could share with this please, that would be lovely.

GLPI: Smart IT Service Management, Helpdesk & Asset Tracking | GLPI we use it for a lot of things as it covers assets and helpdesk.

 

Another good one is Snip IT: Home - Snipe-IT Free open source IT asset management we used this in the past but went to GLPI to cover a number of our needs.

We've been using Civica Education Operations (formerly Parago) since before I started here, as the MSP we had before the school grew big enough to need IT on-site every day used it, and the MSP still do our annual audit in the summer and provide laminated asset labels.

 

Works well through the website, though they recently redid the mobile app and it's still missing features and it quite buggy compared to the previous native app (which they've removed from the app stores - I keep the APK around so I can still use it). Their roadmap page suggests they're aware of the issues with the new app and are planning on fixing them, at least. 

 

It's a whole premises management tool, with a helpdesk, contract manager, licence manager, etc. as well, but individual modules can be added/removed to cut costs.

 

Works well for our needs, their support team have been friendly every time I've contacted them.

Couple of personal experience comments from me.

 

GLPI is good, some fun to setup but it's your helpdesk and asset management, so you can link assets to tickets for tracking of problem trends etc

 

SnipeIT is an excellent stand alone asset management system 

 

Never underestimate the power and flexibility of a spreadsheet, I feel sometimes I am smashing things into GLPI and SnipeIT (previously) the previous spreadsheet I had was easily viewable and auditors seemed to be OK with it tok

We use Civica/Parago here. Although there have been suggestions that we go over to just using excel.

We use a Sharepoint site with lists. Can setup some funky things with PowerAutomate & filters. Works for us & it's free.

It really depends on what you want from an asset system, if you want the bare bones - serial, model, purchase date, who its assigned to then an excel sheet is probably all you need, systems come in handy when you want to track history of assignment, warrantee's, repairs, financial details down to order ref, invoices etc

 

SnipeIT works really well, its used across the trust here

One of the schools we work with uses Snipe-IT. They customized it to import staff and students directly from their MIS. I also understand that Snipe-IT supports SAML integration, enabling SSO and related features. It’s an excellent open-source solution—simple to set up and manage, and in my experience, it offers sufficient functionality for most schools.

Also, we have PDQ Deploy & Inventory - Inventory is fantastic for getting information on computers.

GLPI here, for many years now.

 

Deploying the agent adds a tonne of usefulness, too, such that your inventory is populated automatically and effectively becomes a real-time inventory. The only bits that we maintain manually are the physical location of items and their status. The level of detail is absurd (laptop battery health being a good example). The agent 'toolbox' feature also allows you to leverage an agent to perfrom network inventories (using SNMP, LLDP) on a repeating schedule (details of switches, printers, phones, etc. and how they link together. ), feeding all of that back into GLPI for you (https://www.glpi-project.org/en/unlocking-efficient-network-inventory-management-with-the-glpi-agent-toolbox-plugin/).

 

If I want to know which computers are behind on Windows updates, behind on certain app updates, behind on firmware updates, etc. I just consult GLPI.

Thanks everyone.

I forgot to mention that we also use Atlassian's Jira Service Management for our helpdesk system which has the integration with Lansweeper, but I don't think Lansweeper is designed to be an Asset management.

 

Curious if anyone else has any experience with using Jira Service Management and then trying to do something similar please?
