I was chuckling to myself on the way in, listening to the Today programme - they too were saying don't look at the sun directly, use a pinhole camera - but the way they said it, it sounded like the pinhole camera was for looking through, not projecting the image safely...

It's a national daily newspaper, which many people read through a pinhole or welding mask (particually page 3)

Well I was outside in the sun today between those times, and i saw nothing but glorious sunshine, so no eclipse
