Single player and free FFXI Braver. Basically FFXI in a 2D setup, the attention to detail is impressive. I'm old FFXI player and lived on that for far too long.

 

And.. it made me return to FFXI and sub. Not a lot a month. Almost like a single player now.

I have tinkered with FFXIV off an on for a year or so.  I'm spoiled with so many other games I haven't really stuck with it.  I just renewed my sub for two months this week so hopefully I'll get back into it.

 

FFXI Braver sounds like a cool game.  Might dig into it.

I can't believe how good it is for the old style FF1-6 final fantasies. Expansions are there, originality, Dynamis and Sky. All the extra content too.

Over Thanksgiving break Xbox had a sale on Necromunda Hired Gun, a Warhammer spinoff from a smaller developer.  It was a good little time waster once you learned how the side missions could feed your upgrade paths.

 

I subconsciously feel like I'm missing out by not getting more into online RPGs but then again I can never really get too deep into them.  Sometimes it seems like folks that live in fantasy land in the real world migrate there, but it might be that I haven't stuck with it.  I just keep going with drop in drop out single player stuff.

Playing Dispatch, a must if you liked the "telltale" games. Flawed but worth playing, I'm going around again.

I've seen that one advertised.  I put it on a wish list for when it goes on sale some day.

 

I've got a coworker that says he's had a lot of fun with a game called Dredge.  Seems to have above average reviews on Steam and Xbox.  Hopefully it isn't a cash cow and Microsoft hasn't been deleting one star reviews on it.  They actually delisted and relisted Black Ops 7 to clear out all the negative reviews in one swipe.

Well I am currently about 4 1.2 hours into Final Fantasy X (Remaster), so very early on, but found it is proper jumpy on my PC, but on my Steamdeck, buttery smooth.

Interesting.  I wonder if the PC port is just buggy or if it don't like your particular hardware?  The Steam Deck looks like a groovy little gadget, but I know my eyes would be tortured by a screen that small.  I did buy the FFX/X2 remaster on Playstation, so hopefully I'll give it a go one day.  Back in the day I played through X on the PS2.  Got a little bit into X2 but never finished it due to my late Wife falling ill.

 

I remember a cheese I had tried on X2 that I read about.  I got my party in a dungeon and tied the left stick forward with a rubber band so they were always walking (facing into a corner).  Then used another rubber band to tie down two buttons that corresponded to AOE attack and and full party heal.  Left it running that way when I went to work.  Basically the game kept throwing random encounters that those two keys would wipe out.  When I got home my party was leveled up nicely 😁

I reckon it doesn't like my AMD Graphics card or something, but yes the steamdeck is really impressive to me.

I've got a similar situation regarding one of my machines with an AMD GPU in it.  The machine in my basement on my workbench is a 7800 X3D CPU with an AMD 7900 XTX video card.  Sometimes on Friday nights I go down there to play Counter Strike and it won't go much more than an hour without that game crashing.  Only game that seems to do it.  The machine upstairs in the office has an Nvidia card and it doesn't crash on that one.  You'd think they'd have figured this stuff out by now.

I played this with zero issues. No crashes. No problems.

I feel I might buy the new steam console when it comes out. Currently playing France Classified 44 or something (forget the whole title). It's an x-com like set around D-day, and the last game I will buy from those horrors at Team17 (they made my mate redundant so they can all go jump in the sea)

Battlefield 6 has been taking up a lot of my gaming time lately, but whenever my friends aren't playing or are offline, I've been playing Powerwash Simulator 2. It's quite a nice, relaxing change of pace compared to Battlefield!

 

This weekend, I started a new save in Stardew Valley. I've not played it for years and it has had several updates since then, and I've been watching someone livestream it recently, which spurred me on to give it a go. It really has hooked me - I think I've got further in this new save than I did in either of my older saves.

FFVII Remake and Rebirth have no issues at all and run beautifully but the X remaster seems to just randomly hitch and stutter on the PC. There are people that complain about it online

Has anyone on the Steam forums looked into this?  Sometimes those guys can find unofficial workarounds that fix some major issues.

FFX - had to install a mod called UnX which removed some kind of memory limit which seems to cause the issue. Weird that is affects PC but not the deck

Interesting.  That almost sounds like it is a 32 bit game instead of 64 bit native.  I remember when I downloaded some mods for Dragon Age 2 on PC to clean it up I had to download a program called large address aware and modify the main executable so it could access more than two gigs of RAM.  Once I did that everything looked good and ran smooth.

 

I had to do the same thing on my old Remote Desktop Connection Manager.  Everything modern uses a database engine of some kind, this old program is much simpler and easier to back up.

For the harder type single player game there is Baldur's Gate 3. Never been interested in the tactical type turn based except XCOM series but this is really good.

Absolute freedom too.

 

Bellwright (and Medieval Dynasty) is good = medieval village builder.

Planet crafter = explore/crafting/building

Astrometica = space Subnautica

Penkura = typical crafter builder with a nice sci-fi spin

 

Generally all small Indie dev types. I I seem to be spending a ton of time on these types lately instead of the big budget games. End up replaying these over and over again plus they get free updates or still in development.

Lately I've been trying my hand at CRPGs, but honestly, it feels like I'm in over my head.  Pillars of Eternity II is fairly complex and I'm just stumbling around in it.  

• Cyberpunk 2077: played through twice.
• Baulder's Gate 3: played through twice.
• Fallout 4: more time into it than I care to admit.  Mods like the Fenns Sherrif's Department and Sim Settlements kept me coming back to it.
• Greedfall: ....it was ok?  Once is enough.
• Divinity II: Played this right after completing BG3.  You can certainly get a feel for Larian's formula.  Had fun.
• Frostpunk: keep coming back to this to scratch the RTS itch.
• They are Billions: been a while, but both fun and nerve wracking.  Nothing like a single zombie getting in and infecting your entire town ruining a six hour session.
• Expedition 33: played through twice.  Need to go go back for the DLC that just dropped.  Easily my favorite game going back for years.

Looking forward to:

• The Expanse
• Exodus
• FF7: I'll wait until the third has dropped and I can play them all at once.

All my gaming happens primarily in the winter when I go into hibernation.  When summer hits I'm out in the garage turning wrenches.

With the announcement of Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic, I had a craving to play a Star Wars game... Knights of the Old Republic is an incredible game but I think it might require some setup and modding to get that working on Windows 11 the way I want it to, so I've jumped back into Jedi Survivor for the third (I think?) time. I love the combat in that game.
