kennysarmy Posted August 28, 2025 Posted August 28, 2025 I've just logged in to 24 computers using ABTutor in a suite of Win11 PC's. We use CON2PRT to map printers based on the name of the PC. Occasionally the logon script will stall. Out of 24 PC's I've just attempted to logon to, one has got "stuck". Anyone with any ideas as to how I can troubleshoot this? If I close the logon script down, logon proceeds as normal but obviously without the printers being setup.
kennysarmy Posted September 2, 2025 Author Posted September 2, 2025 Nothing obvious, I've amended the logon scripts to show a bit more details by removing @echo off Tried two suites this morning with a reactivated account (someone who left in the summer) and every PC logged on fine of course

Basically the con2prt program just refused to do anything for any logged on user (even admins) The fix was to remove the PC from the domain and re-add it, then it worked fine. Not sure how to troubleshoot this further and find the underlying issue though
machy Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 if you end up at a brick wall I Made a print adding tool because they never wanted to add for me 😂 i know alot of printery tools like that have broke as windows deprecated some older things think the same realm as old dotnet and WMIC Being replaced by CIM etc

Yes MS don't help a lot with cryptic error messages. TBH I've used both the con2prt method and Group Policy Preferences with loopback to apply specific area printers successfully in the past in multiple orgs. MS has of course thrown a few hurdles in the way along with some printer manufacturers and driver issues. I even worked in a college and changed the way they setup enrolment printers to use GPP instead of sharing USB printers from one PC as that gave us no end of trouble. 1
