Users receiving a "Control your Data" prompt upon first login to Chromebook

Hi there,

 

Just doing a bit of testing with some new Chromebooks and when logging in for the first time with a test student account, a "Control your data" box pops up with options and an "Accept and continue" button.

Is there any way to stop this from happening with a setting or policy in Google Admin?

Just giving this a bump.

It looks to be a setting for Geolocation (https://chromeenterprise.google/policies/#DefaultGeolocationSetting) but im not sure i want to disable this for my users? Anyone got any opinions on if we should set it to "Do not allow sites to detect users' geolocation". I dont think it would break anything specifically but there could be something im missing.

This one can be stopped with the following

 

1. Go to your Admin console (admin.google.com).
2. Go to "Devices" > "Chrome" > "Settings" > "Users & browsers" tab.
3. Press Ctrl + F. Look for "Privacy Sandbox".
4. Locate the OU where you would like to apply the changes.
5. Under the Configuration, please Choose the following:
a. Do not show Privacy Sandbox prompt to users.
b. Disable Privacy Sandbox Ad topics settings for your users.
c. Disable Privacy Sandbox Site-suggested ads settings for your users.
d. Disable Privacy Sandbox Ad measurement settings for your users.
Lastly, please click "Save"."

Did you find a fix for this at all?

 

I've got the same thing where its coming up with Control your Data, and the students are needing to click Accept and continue every time.

(This is before they are logged in)

Hi @Jay241  ... sadly, no - not yet!  I did however use Dan's suggested settings (see above) to get rid of the annoying ad privacy pop ups.  I'm still on the hunt for the Control Your Data setting ...

I've done a bit of research and it would seem that it's currently not possible from what people are saying on Reddit, and with the help of ChatGPT doing some research for me. 

It would seem its baked into the ChromeOS where Google have a Privacy Policy that can't be turned off as of yet.

 

Thats what i've found so far, this may change and hope it does as its an annoying popup the Students don't need to have.

think we've managed to get rid of the "Control your Data" screen after trying various suggestions from google etc.

Not 100% but think it was these settings that did it:

Devices > Chrome > Settings > User and browser settings (apply to an OU with your users)

Geolocation  - Do not allow sites to detect users' geolocation

Devices > Chrome > Settings > Device settings (apply to an OU with your Chromebook devices)

Timezone - Europe/London - United Kingdom Time GMT+00:00

System time zone automatic detection - Always send Wi-Fi access points to the server while resolving the time zone

This looks great - I will certainly give this combo a try here and see if I see the same results.

That appears to work - quick question though, can anyone translate that last bit about the timezone into English? "Always send Wi-Fi access points to the server while resolving the time zone" - what?  By AP is it referring to the chromebook/client?

yes it reads wrong but the description kind of makes sense ?! :
 

• Always send WiFi access-points to server while resolving timezone—Uses location of the WiFi access-point that the device connects to to set the time zone (most accurate).
