Recently I've been asked to move the SQL databases for SIMS, FMS and SOLUS3.  I was given half the instructions for SIMS and FMS and has to get external support to finish.. But the SOLUS3 instructions were as follows...

Quote

- Take a backup of Solus 3 deployment database using Dbattach, the DBattach tool can be found in your SQL Binn directory.

- Restore Solus to the new SQL instance

- Uninstall from Add/remove programs UI, Service and database

- Reinstall using the ISO below, in the reverse Database, Service and UI

I used to get step by step, instructions with pictures, now I get, that... I have no idea restore a SQL instance, what I'd need to do it.  I'm not asking here, I'm showing that Captia are reducing support so you have to pay for remote support or move to the hosted solution.. They are doing this by crapping up support.  Back in 2008 they gave us a course on how to migrate and the instructions, now this!

Given the complexity and risk factor I paid ESS, think it was £500 from memory around 1 year ago.

It was more for peace of mind post move to help fix any issues.

I mean, that was obviously going to be the next step wasn't it?

Not content with trying to strong-arm clients into a laughably poor 3-year deal, nor with then trying to trick them into renewing every year - thereby locking them into a fresh set of 3 years - nor with then trying to stop people from changing MIS suppliers by handing out non-specific legal threats, they've now moved onto reducing support to such an extent clients are virtually forced into paying SIMS to help/host for them.

Honestly, the end of this company and their appalling business practices and inferior product cannot come soon enough for the education sector.

Dont worry it'll be all over in 3 years.  You can't lose 25% of your market share per year for too many years before you go bust.
