Updates for ProDesktop - where to get them?

Just wondering if anyone uses ProDesktop at all, and how they get the updates.

 

I'm not sure exactly how or why we have it. Some course the tech teacher went on allowed us to put it on any machine on the network (and allegedly allows pupils/teachers to use it at home too - for school work).

 

Of course, there's no mention of this on the PTC site and you need a maintainance agreement to get into the support section of the site to get updates/patches/service packs.

 

According to some forum i saw, you have to contact the trainer of the course but I have no idea how to. Leave it with the tech teacher but I doubt I'l get any sense before the end of term (today lol).

 

Anyone got any idea on this?

Everything you've been told is true. It's whats happened here, and it's good software as well.

 

Probably best to contact PTC and explain to them what's happening and tell a white lie like the guy running it is on extended sick leave if he or she has left. Pull the old sympathy strings with them.

Our updates usually come from the tech department ...about 2 minutes before they want to use the software.

When I started here, there was already a fantastic rule in place where by software is only installed during holidays - forget to hand it to me in time and it's tough!

I have to secure the wireless network at one primary school.

I have 18 new XP machines to reimage at another.

Various Linux related bits and bobs will need sorting out at the High School however I can do that over the VPN. I might get called in as an extra pair of hands too.

So no-one has the updates they cud send me then instead? lol Don't see why they dont make them available to download. Apparently they did but pulled them off recently in favour of being annoying gits lol

In that sort of situation I usually find that if I phone up I can have an updated CD sent to me. Occasionally, I have to pay for it.

I dont know anything about what the tech teacher did, who trained, etc. - you know how they skimp on details lol - fancy not knowing what a patch is lol *sheeesh*

 

Have you got a number to call? I've been to their website and the number I found was crap - you had to enter your mantainance agreement license number thing - obvious dont have one so no further could I go

I thought I'd bump this one to enquire as to whether anyone has had the problem with loading prodesktop 8.0 [sP1] in a user not an administrator at all?

The tech staff are asking me to put the old version on now - which is fine but means a bit of manual work lol

 

Please post on there (and here) if you know the solution.

 

Interestingly, the tech teacher got told that they were bringing in some sort of support thing [probably a forum] to help educational users with their technical problems on ProD, but whether thats true or not, I cant say for sure.

before you go an any further...

 

be warned the license agreements for prodesktop are very specific and the if teacher leaves you have no license as it is not licensed to school but to teacher.

 

 

Second a specific version is licensed to teacher.... The teacher should have a license agreement do not do anything until that is brought in...

 

Warn esign department about if the teacher leaves then cant have it installed and so that they send someone else on the course...

 

Also remebr it is amount of pupils so make sure you are with in that limit too..

We had the problem with ProDesktop 8. To fix it, you have to install it as an administrator locally, but only after downloading the latest Java patches. Apparently it has someting to do with that. Once installed, administrator must run an extrusion image and then close the application.

 

When a user logs on, it "fixes" it. Mmmmmmm. Haven't tried it yet because the design bods in our school want 7 on instead anyway; they say it's because 8 doesn't have tutorials. Oh- and they want copies of it for students to take home.

 

Can this be right- you are allowed to make copies for each student needing one (and member of staff) from a site license of ProDesktop? Seems strange to me. I have held off doing it because I want to be sure first...

as per our license agreement

 

we can install up to 300 copies for use schools faculty and students soley in connection with educational course whch has purpsoe of teaching students generalized skilss and knowledge.

 

The licnese permits the school to make 100 copies in accourdence with the clause and one backup copy.

 

 

the licnese will be terminated upon the following

 

brech of sections 1,2,10 or 11 or

 

the school ceases to have a staff teacher with upto date accreditation in the teaching program by design and technology association.

Just wondering whether anyone actually has the ProDesktop service packs as I am in desperate need of them for our school, I would quite happily send a blank DVD to someone if they wouldnt mind putting the service packs on there.
