Morning all,

Our head of DT is insisting upon keeping their whiteboard and projector setups across the department rather than switching to interactive screens as they don't like the delay between drawing a line and having it show up on the screen, they like to draw fairly technical drawings over projected images.

What tech do you guys put into your DT rooms? They're teaching KS3 through to A Level. I'm wondering whether there are any interactive screens that are more sensitive than others or potentially a drawing tablet

We use Smart SB60 series boards throughout the school (SLT was on board with having a standard "teacher wall" across the school which makes it all nice and easy for us).

While I can't say they've been hassle free, we've never had a problem with latency or responsiveness with SMART interactive screens.

We just use Smart GX 65"

Is there a teeny tiny bit of latency when drawing? - Sure but we are talking maybe 5-10ms

Does it affect writing and drawing in reality? - Not really!

I think long gone are the days of the constant calibration and slow drawing boards of the past - most I have used (promethean, BenQ, Smart) have been perfectly adequete in recent times.

CTouch here, no issues with latency other than 1 board which we put down to length of USB and now works OK. Its not like the DT department are drafting up accurate blueprints for real world building. We have a standards classroom configuration here as well. All teachers should be able to go into any classroom and have the same experience.

CTouch here too... standard classroom config. Connect to device either wirelessly or with USB C docking station. Staff also have a 2 in 1 device so if they need intricate detail (e.g. Art) they can choose to draw on directly on the screen of their device.

Art do have a couple of projectors for tracing outlines etc but they just bring those out when they need them.

Hmm that's an interesting one, we've fitted them all around other than DT at the mo (theyre summer term) and have nt had any complaints about latency or nor being able to draw properly?

We've not had any comments or complaints about latency on touch screens - all our classrooms are on Smart touch screens. If USB connections might make a difference you could possibly offer the DT department an OPS slot PC to go in the board, making the whole thing an integrated "tablet" type device.

Latency is caused by the device driving the panel and the sensors on the panel  This is what made some panels better than others.  If your panels use IR sensors there will always be a lag over bubble glass which works like a smart phone
