Forum / message board that supports LDAP / AD authentication

[FN-GM]

I am look for a forum or message board software that can integrate with active directory or LDAP authentication. Basically I would like to use AD credentials for single sign on, preferably one that will automatically sign in transparently, but that’s not necessary.

Well we don’t use moodle, and I don’t want to use if for this case .I want something more specific such as vbulliten, smf etc moodle isn’t designed to be a forum.

I understand you not wanting to use moodle for whatever reason, but your wrong in stating that it isn't designed to be used as a forum because if you had spent any time on the moodle forums, you'd see that it is.

But moodle isnt a forum its more of a learning platform, yes it has forum features but it is not designed to be used as a dedicated forum.

You need a vBulletin forum though and they're not free.

 

You could use a Simple Machines forum. I think Vanilla has a modification for LDAP support too.

PHPBB3 supports AD out of the box. I have mine authenticating against it here.

You could use a Simple Machines forum. I think Vanilla has a modification for LDAP support too.

Well, I it here. I wouldn't use it on a live site (stigma from the earlier days, I believe security is much better now), so I switched to vBulletin which is the Rolls-Royce of bulletin boards to allow external access.

The security seems to be to be excellent, I did originally have it running on the previous version of PHPBB but had all kinds of security breaches, Spam users sining up posting porn links Ect. Since the switch to PHPBB3 I have not had a single problem.

Community Server supports such function. Checkout this comparison chart, but it's not free! Because it's a useful function, I think you'll be hard pushed to get it free to be honest!

I was thinking of more serious issues with phpbb2 such as compromising the server, Worm vulnerabilities etc.
