Restrict Microsoft 365 'About Me' page

I've been asked to investigate whether it's possible to remove permission for a user to edit their own 'About Me' page for their account as we've had a Student write some really derogatory & inappropriate stuff in theirs.

 

I don't think there is a way and after a quick look can't find anything to support the idea that's it's possible, but I ought to ask here as maybe there's someone who has run into the same issue and might know something I don't?

I'm not really sure that there is an appropriate technical response for this, the fact is that it is pastoral issue to handle. The student could write the exact same thing in Word or anywhere they are allowed to enter text, would anyone expect to block this or just for it to be flagged as part of the usual safeguarding monitoring process?

Very much a "OK, pastoral team - if he walked around with a badge on saying that, how would you handle it? Right, do that." issue.

 

If you use some middleware such as Salamander to sync between MIS > AD > Azure, you may be able to create a group called UpdateUserBio, drop the person in the group and then ask Salamander to overwrite the About Me text from MIS or AD fields when it syncs overnight.

Thanks, I thought as much but I just wanted to make sure I had an appropriate reply to "is there a way we can stop this happening next time?" since the moment we clear his about me page, and give him back access to his account, he'll likely just add it all back in.

Very much a pastoral/behaviour management issue. I have issues in locking every little thing down as it doesn't teach students boundaries. It creates the idea in the students heads that if they weren't allowed to do something then it would be locked down. (I have had students say this to me about the web filter)

I had this view when I was a student, a now terrifying number of years ago.

I was the cause of many things being locked down
