Another vote for OSDCloud here. Seems to be working well for us, and allows an easy way to quickly get Windows on multiple device models with all the needed drivers etc

 

How do you name your machines? One thing I like about MDT is putting the machines into the database and letting it build with the name.

With intune you name the machine when you enrol it, so every time you refresh the computer / install windows etc.. it will automatically pick up the same name.

The point stands. Autopilot / Intune will name the machine during enrolment. That is dependent on the policy you set.

OSDCloud is for windows installation, intune is for managing your domain etc.. including naming.

Hi @Steve101 - Yes I understand that, but we don't use inTune and if MDT goes then I need another tool for bare metal deployment. I cannot see us moving to inTune for at least two years.

The point stands. Autopilot / Intune will name the machine during enrolment. That is dependent on the policy you set.

 

You can use the -AssignedComputerName parameter with Add-DeviceToAutopilot.ps1, to set the name of the computer when you enroll in Autopilot/Intune.

I have just configure OSDcould! I have managed to make a USB that will download Windows 11, install it, download the Dell drivers and install those, reboot into autopilot without a single touch. (Expect having to boot into the USB).

 

I am looking at how we can install Windows Update during the OOBE. I think I have some methods, I haven’t tried any. I was wondering if anyone else had achieved this please?

I will post my commands but it did install the drivers by default.

 

I decided to use a custom script packaged as a Win32 app instead. Reason being, if we use new vendor delivered devices with a factory build, they will also get patched.

Thanks, although using SCCM seems a backward step. Might have well used it instead of intune from the get go.
