Aftab_Ahmed Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Given the latest release of data which has just come out on the MIS landscape. What are people's views and are there any surprises?
Aftab_Ahmed Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 For those that haven't seen the data: you can download it from here: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/school_mis_supplier_from_autumn
Ditto Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I think I'll wait for @bringmoredata to do his always excellent analysis and then comment - although there is a bit of me that might mean I take a first hand look!
Michael Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 Thanks for sharing! The whole spreadsheet reads - 9586 SIMS 6562 Arbor 2497 Bromcom 1548 Integris 1334 ScholarPack 113 IRIS Ed:gen 47 SchoolPod Birmingham schools (444): 175 SIMS 125 Arbor 111 Bromcom 29 ScholarPack 2 Integris 1 IRIS Ed:gen 1 SchoolPod Here's the formula I used - =COUNTIF(I14:I22044,"Arbor") =COUNTIF(I14:I22044,"Bromcom") =COUNTIF(I14:I22044,"CCS-SIMS") =COUNTIF(I14:I22044,"ScholarPack") =COUNTIF(I14:I22044,"IRIS Ed:gen") =COUNTIF(I14:I22044,"Integris") =COUNTIF(I14:I22044,"SchoolPod") 2
Ditto Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 My really quick analysis graphically, and this a count of schools, not related to number of pupils. This needs more work, so lots of caveats, but referring to https://bringmoredata.blogspot.com/, the Spring 2024 showed SIMS at 49%. If my figures are anywhere near right, that's a big drop and suggests an acceleration from SIMS. Bromcom and Arbor appear to be growing still, but Arbor performing very strongly. 1
andy_b Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 (edited) Birmingham schools (444): 175 SIMS 125 Arbor 111 Bromcom Intresting that Bromcom seems to be doing better in Birmingham than nationally. Was CMIS to Bromcom more likely than CMIS to Arbor/SIMS? Edited December 5, 2024 by andy_b
Michael Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 You'd be right, it's all geared to what finance solutions will work with Birmingham's finance processes.
Aftab_Ahmed Posted December 5, 2024 Author Posted December 5, 2024 Very interesting read and good to see more analysis on this as it clearly shows the movement. SIMS are gonna struggle with their roadmap as it may decline even further. Any other analysis and feedback welcome
pete Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 In our neck of the woods, SIMS is behind Arbor and Bromcom, especially after adjusting for migrations since the Autumn census. Integris = 143 ScholarPack = 65 Arbor = 51 Bromcom = 46 SIMS = 40 IRIS = 13 Schoolpod = 2 iSAMS = 1 Tomorrow is also the deadline for stating in writing (by recorded delivery) that you won't be renewing SIMS contracts.
sefton Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 I'd expect Sims to make a bigger loss in the Summer census as a lot of three year contracts are coming to an end in March.
sefton Posted December 5, 2024 Posted December 5, 2024 The 3 Key products, Arbor, Integris and ScholarPack are less than 1% behind Sims now.
AlistairB1983 Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Interesting - our local area is currently a 50/50 split between SIMS & Arbor, however that won't be lasting much longer as I know that 2/5 schools listed as using SIMS are moving to Arbor come the new year as both their Data teams have 'booked in' to come and view how I've set ours up.
ASA-Simon Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 https://mis-trends.info/mis-comparisons/ is a good stats dashboard. It's odd to see that SIMS is up by 529 for Autumn 2024.
DODICT Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Don't think that data is right SIMS did not gain schools in Autumn from what I can see - only 9586 SIMS records in the latest FOI request ?
DODICT Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 BringmoreData - who I trust and its well documented by many that while sims have signed some schools (god knows why) but have had a continual net loss for some time - that scomis analysis has them gaining schools last autumn too which didnt happen or if it did SIMS themselves weren't aware !!
ASA-Simon Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Don't think that data is right SIMS did not gain schools in Autumn from what I can see - only 9586 SIMS records in the latest FOI request ? Yes doesn't tally up with the figures in the news: https://www.whichmis.com/mis-market-churn-autumn-2024-schools-continue-to-change-their-providers/
DODICT Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Strange - I tally their figures for Arbor and Bromcom but SIMS seems out ?
Aftab_Ahmed Posted December 6, 2024 Author Posted December 6, 2024 The data shared in mis-trends is out of date as the latest FOI really shows a decline for SIMS and others are right - with contract renewals looking - it does paint a bleak picture for them.
DODICT Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 But the direction of travel is clear to see and if you went to SAAS and saw what was to show for SIMS Next Gen you must be mad or heavily resistant to change to want to continue to use that product. Its playing catch up in a horrible hybrid way with its "Cloud Slices" but at a pace that means its actually losing ground on its rivals.
Rob_D Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 Unsurprisingly, Bromcom is way ahead in West Sussex. 62 - Arbour198 - Bromcom25 - CCS-SIMS1 - Scholar Pack
synaesthesia Posted December 6, 2024 Posted December 6, 2024 I would find it hard to believe that SIMS would have gained over 500 schools - we're not America. Can only assume an error in the data somewhere, either that or perhaps some schools/trusts/LAs are a glutton for punishment.
Aftab_Ahmed Posted December 7, 2024 Author Posted December 7, 2024 For those, who have not seen it: Attached is an export by LA which gives a really good indication of movement across regions.FOI 2024 0037129.pdf 2
supportman Posted December 11, 2024 Posted December 11, 2024 For those, who have not seen it: Attached is an export by LA which gives a really good indication of movement across regions. That really is useful to see who's got what. Now what would be really interesting is to break that down into primary and secondary schools.
