Hi Everyone,

Kindly help, i have 20 pcs paxton on an existing site which as been working perfectly for more than 10 years, everything just stopped working.

ISSUES I'M FACING

1) WHEN CARD IS PRESENTED TO CARD READER IT ONLY BEEP THE DOOR WON'T OPEN, YET THE CARD HAVE FULL ACCESS. IF I CHECK THE BACKLOG (EVENT) ON NET2 IT'S DISPLAY

ACCESS GRANDED (YET DOOR IS STILL LOCKED).

2) I USE A NEW CARD READER WITH A NEW CAT6 CABLE TO CONNECT TO ONE OF THE EXISTING PAXTON ACCESS CONTROL IT'S NOT WORKING BUT I TRIED USING BOTH THE OLD CARD READER AND NEW ONE ON ANOTHER PAXTON CONTROLLER IT'S WORKED.

3) ALL THE 20 PCS PAXTON ACCESS CONTROLLERS ARE CONNECTED IN A DAISY WAY AND TWO OF IT CONNECTED TO THE LAN(TCP/IP) ALL OF THE CONTROLLERS KEEP GOING OFFLINE.. AFTER A WHILE IT WILL COME ONLINE AGAIN.. KINDLY HELP WITH POSSIBLE WAY TO RESOLVED THIS ISSUES... Thanks

No expert, but I thought once the cards or fobs were setup, they should still open the doors, even when the doors systems don't have LAN connection to the paxton server software. Ours doors kept working even when our network comms cabinet went off.

 

Is it the same issue for all doors?

 

Check the network settings in the Paxton control software, make sure they are not on DHCP and are set correctly.

 

Perhaps give Paxton a call?

Thanks for your response, even when the controller is not online is not releasing the magnet. I tried all i can. I have takeoff the daisy connection I connected it directly to the LAN, I have changed the cables, card readers.... Still same issue

Try re-instating the door with the issue.

 

Go to doors on the left, select the door with the issue, select re-instate towards the bottom and click ok.

 

That should resolve the issue, although I have occasionally had to physically disconnect power to reset.

Do you have three LEDs on the reader? Green, Orange and Red?

 

If so, when you present a card that doesn't release the door, what do the LEDs show? Green flashing or Red flashing. Or do they say constant on as before.

Actually, we have HID card reader for in&out with a single indicator led on it. When card is presented it beeb green light yet lock won't release, I have swop card reader, cable and same card is granted access on other doors. I have tried another card with full access Also same issues.. The only thing am yet to swop is the controller. Please if I click restart from the database via the config utility hope it won't affect the programming? Moreso, I have connected some of the controller directly to the LAN bypassing the daisy configuration, I hope that have no effect also. I will try every suggestion given to me once I get to site.... Kindly please help drop possible solutions please.

If you go to the settings for that door in Net 2:

 

Under the reader 1 tab check:

 

Under reader type - normally would be Paxton reader but in your case I'd check what it's set to on a working door.

 

operating mode - set to token only (Might have been set to inactive by mistake)

 

Check timed operating mode - unchecked

 

Reader Action - typically Relay 1 opens for door open time.

Do you have any anything linked to Paxton that could be causing an issue?

 

We had a strange issue this week with our Paxton. All of our associated tokens suddenly disappeared, if I added them back manually they would be removed after 20 minutes. After contacting InVentry (we have a sync between Inventry and Paxton setup) to see if the problem was on their end, it turned out all of our door associations were corrupt and had to be removed and setup again (took around 10 minutes).

@ APrice Thanks I will be at the site again tomorrow, I will try all these again and I will drop my feedback tomorrow.

If I may ask, on the configuration utility under the database there is room to restart.... If I press Restart hope it won't affect the database?

Restarting is safe.

 

However if you use the 'rules and triggers' or IO boards, they will stop working for 10-20 seconds whilst it restarts.

 

Regular Paxton doors will continue working.

@howartp thank you, if its safe I will try that Alao just to get the system working back again. Am just thinking can magnet be faulty? All magnet are coming up with light... Just thinking

What type of lock is fitted? Is it a mag lock, door strike or a motorised door closer? I'm guessing a maglock if it has an LED on it.

 

Door strikes can go bad mechanically, but might release with a gentle tap from a hammer or some WD40 or similar lubricant. They also don't release if there is pressure on the door. They can also be set internally as fail-secure rather than fail-safe and if there was no power getting to the lock, then it won't release.

 

Its unlikely a maglock would be faulty, but a wiring fault could prevent the maglock from releasing.

 

If the maglock has been wired up so that the net2 ACU disconnects the ground (0 volts) side of the maglock, then the wire could potentially be damaged and short circuited to another ground circuit. If its power-side switched, then it could also happen, but its less likely to come into contact with another source of 12/24volts.

 

You could check the maglock by disconnecting the wires from the maglock (there is normally a removable panel at one end). I would take lots of photos before touching the wires in case things fall out, or you forget how its wired.

 

A safer way would be to test with a multimeter/volt meter as this can be done without disconnecting wires. There should be 12v across the maglock terminals and that should disappear when the door is released.

 

You could also disconnect the wires at the ACU end, but its harder to do this without disturbing the other connections. The power and relay connection I find are fairly easy to dislodge as they are often wired together.

 

If in doubt, I would find someone familiar with wiring this sort of thing up so that you don't make a bad situation worse.

 

Another possibility (although unlikely) is that the relay could be stuck closed. The door should normally release when mains and battery power is removed from the ACU, so that might point to a faulty relay if turning off the ACU doesn't release the maglock.

 

You could also check that the relay 1 LED on the ACU changes when a card is tapped. That would also tell you if the ACU is doing what it should when the card is tapped. The LED on the maglock should also change or go off when the door is told to unlock.

It was the actual token record, so the record for the card that got corrupted for us. It seems as though the corruption occurred within InVentry and then synced over to Paxton which caused our issue.

Our Mag locks have failed. Due to the fitting of 12V locks on 24V system...

 

They have also failed open when the ****** fire alarm company don't re-set the panel after a service call. Open for a chunk of 1/2 term!
