Hello,

I have been moving all of ours Gen 8 and 9 iPads onto Meraki MDM from Mosyle which has worked as expected. Apart from some of the Gen 9 iPads auto dim when you sign out, I have changed the settings in the Accessability section on the iPad itself, but doesn't seem to save the setting. Has anyone else had this problem?

Also, I am enrolling our older iPads (iPad Air 2 16GB) using Apple Configurator, it's installing all of the apps and profiles apart from user based ones, I am facing the following issues;

  • Not installing user based profile settings
  • iPad signs straight in by pressing the home button, I have gone into settings and I can't even set one there.
  • On the MDM dashboard the device under management is says Supports User Channel - No

I am very new to Mac, as I have never used one before, but I have followedthe guidance from ASM and Meraki documentation, and I'm doing everything that I should be doing. I have contacted Apple, who states I need to contact Meraki, which I have done and they are very helpful. But I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem and knows of a quick resolution to the issue.

Thank you

The iPad Air 2 might be too old or not have enough capacity to support what you’re trying to do. Although I’d expect Meraki would know that.

What do you mean, when you say "user based" apps and profiles? Are you trying to use these device in Shared iPad mode?

We have iPad Air 32GB, and IIRC, when I looked into it they were considered inadequate for Shared iPad. Also it was slow as heck. We run them in device management mode only, no users.

Checking on the specs, Air 2s are supported, but, minimum size recommendation is 32GB.

In the profile configuration restrictions on Meraki, you'll want to have "Allow modification of passcode settings" checked. Once it is, on the iPad it'll be in the settings under the Touch ID & Pass code. If not set just right, the profile and restrictions will hide passcode options in the menu on the iPad. Even if you can get to the correct section, they won't even show as greyed out. You may want to look for other profile restriction options that need to be checked in addition to "Allow modification of passcode settings". OR try taking off the profile completely, set the passcode, and reapply the profile. It might just be wiped out as soon as you apply it but it's less annoying than reading every. single. restriction.

Hi DSAGEY,

I know you’re facing issues while enrolling iPads with Apple Configurator and Meraki MDM particularly where there are user base profile settings and passcode. Herein challenges reoccur even after adherence to the ASM and Meraki guidelines and engaging the support team. It could be because it’s not new, or maybe because it has a lower capacity – that is if Meraki has some setting regulating passcode modification. Consider checking these aspects.
