Good afternoon,

 

After the shock of finding out we can no longer use LCVAP (now SCA) funding for PCs and laptops I am reconsidering my options for Windows 10 EOS\moving to Windows 11.

 

With pricing for EOS pricing from Microsoft not likely to be released until October 2024 at the earliest I had read about 0Patch (ZeroPatch) and wondered if anybody had any experience using this product?

I'm sure I read somewhere though that this is accumulative, so the second year is the $2 plus the $1 from year one so actually $3 per device and same with year three being $7 per device but I don't have that article to hand now.

That depends on what you're counting as such.

 

As in if you're talking that fee per year, so if you only use it for 1 year then it's £1, but if you have it two years it's effectively a £3 total to extend it for the 2 years (But not £3 on top of £1)

The school can always fund it by not wasting money on other things, or by hiring less people, why do they think using 10 year old computers is productive?

I doubt it, but who knows. This is microsoft we're talking about. I wouldn't put anything past them with all of the crap they've pulled since Win11. (who the hell thought recall was a good idea?)

 

At the very least i'll be purchasing 1 years worth of extended support for Win10

Similar to the Windows 7 ESU program, you will be able to purchase yearly subscriptions to security updates, renewable for up to three years. 

 

Generally it'll just be the cost trade off. If you have 500 pcs for example on Win10 that don't support Win11, it'll "only" be £500 for year 1 which isn't bad, but you still need to consider where the 500 replacements are coming from. If there's money to be found from the magical pots of wealth then it makes sense getting access to them ASAP as it'll still need 500 doing sometime in the next few years!

Look up your school's budget on https://schools-financial-benchmarking.service.gov.uk/ and ask yourself why they can't spare less than 1% of that to have computers from this millennium

Apart from the fact LTSC has never been "supported" on desktops for end users etc

I have previously checked this with Microsoft and it absolutely is supported and you would be surprised how many schools use it. There is nothing atall preventing us from using it regardless that they recommend we use SAC.

As of this Summer we deploy a mix of Windows 11 Education SAC with Office 365 and Windows 10 Enterprise LTSC with Office 2021 LTSC. Reality is though that Office365 does actually work on LTSC fine and how often if ever do we ever call Microsoft for support...

Teams seems to work on my LTSC once deployed.. I'm moving to W11 Edu Pro slowly over summer.

It does work, but not officially supported I believe. So in reality will most likely be fine

Why specifically Edu Pro? Confusingly Edu Pro is Pro but Edu is Enterprise - there are GPOs that won't work on the Pro version amongst other differences.
