Truthfully I have never heard sims make any sounds, however I have a teacher asking how she can disable the sounds for SIMS which are apparently related to un-read important messages.

Could anyone point me at the criteria for those sound or know whether it can be disabled ?

TIA

The sounds are the "Missing Registration Notification", which are issued by your attendance team.

Simple way to mute them is to just do your register on time, then you won't get sent an alert.

I don't use SIMS very much, I'm just the management and installation of the client/server side stuff/SQL/Firewall guy...

So... I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for but...

TOOLS > SETUP MESSAGE OPTIONS

SIMS SOUND ALERTS.JPG

I *think* (hope) this is per user and not a global option... but my sign-on is top level and I've never looked at his function before so...

At one point our admin staff were testing out the message function to see if we could use it for alerting of incidents... they didn't realise that it would send the messages to everyone and beep every time anyone opened SIMS if they didn't acknowledge all of them... there were a lot and none of the staff knew how to do that, so every morning, in every classroom... ding, ding, ding, ding...

EDIT - Just noticed this is for 'High Priority' messages, that might equate to 'important' messages but OP wasn't very clear on what messages their user was receiving, so it may not work...

You can also bulk delete historical messages in the SIMS backend (Tools > Housekeeping > Manage Messages).

There is (was? - haven't checked for a while) an upper limit of 500 messages per person after which new messages wouldn't be delivered.
