New mattress time - Simiba or iGel?

Looking at getting a new mattress but unsure which one to get however looking at firm mattress as the one i have at the moment is > 8 years old, still supportive and still comfortable but i think it's about time of a change. I'd say im round 12.5 to 13st slim to average build so yet don't like a soft mattress.

 

I've seen the Simba range and the other day say the iGel mattress which was like laying on a firm cloud and felt very comfortable.

 

I have a slight sore back on the lower right which flares up every now and then, i like to call it my glitch.

 

Can anyone recommend any mattresses?

One thing that makes me wary of mattresses like Simba, Emma, Dormeo etc is the fact that reviews rarely come after a good time of use. It's easy to say they're lovely and comfortable, best night's sleep etc after the first week but what are they like after a year or two? By that time, people seem to swear at their loss, replace the mattress and don't bother reviewing them - or if they do, the reviews and social media comments get hidden by the pages. For this reason I've always tended to stick to the companies that have actually been around a long time; mine is a Dreams currently, not a massively expensive one but meant I was able to try it first which is another benefit of those.

Not saying the others are in any way bad, but I'm getting old and cynical

Don’t most of these places give you chance to return? Wonder how many people do.

 

But tbh we looked at all these and in the end got from ikea about 3-4 years ago. Medium in firmness - sometimes I suffer from back pain so this one is supportive yet very comfortable. And it was a lot cheaper than the Simba type ones !

"Which" used to rate Emma with the top rating, but I've stopped subscribing as it was getting very expensive for what became reviews for things I had no interest in.

 

We have always had Vi-Spring, but was very impressed with a mattress in a holiday let which turned out to be a Tempur. I am normally very uncomfortable in holiday let beds.

Whenever we buy a new mattress we seem to go through about 2 or 3 purchase/returns before settling on one. It takes a good few nights for my OH to determine whether it's going to play nicely with her back. Trying stuff in a shop basically tells us nothing more than whether it's worth trying at home or not.

 

Getting a mattress delivered is easy these days, and even the IKEA hybrid things are vacuum packaged so that you can put them into the boot of your car, but getting a mattress returned and out of your house is less easy!

I got an Emma about 18 months ago and still love it. Bought their pillows too and equally as impressed.

I've been waking up with a bit of a sore back recently, and was wondering if it's the mattress, it's a Mammoth one, and found paperwork, had it about 10years which is time the experts say you should replace a mattress, just seems "funny" like a tv that dies 366 days after you bought it

 

quite tempted to buy one again, got it in Furniture Village, similar to memory foam and spring combo, but less likely to make you too hot during the night.

 

we got the mammoth pillows as well, they're still fine, maybe a bit squishyer now, but no neck aches
