SIMS Backup for Arbor

I need to provide a backup of SIMS to Arbor for migration. Our MIS provider is not being very helpful, stating that SIMS do not allow it as per their recent statement etc.

 

Do I need the SA password to be able to do a backup?

Would I use dbattach to do it or is there an easier method?

The OP checkpointed the server VM, changed the password using the method linked, and then reverted after the backup.

Got all that sorted. Just need the database.

 

This is a standalone PC install, very small school, so may just wait until the final day of term and charge the SA password if I cannot get it before then

Can you let me know how you managed to get the back ups without the SA password, or could you point me to some guidance please.

Of course what you actually do is up to you.

thank you, the school still have a contract with ESS and would like back ups of their database, our LA support will not provide the SA password, is there another way of getting the back up.?

The point is even if you have a .bak file you are not legally able to pass that to Arbor

Not saying I agree with it but those are the rules. LA Support units have been threatened that if they help with this they risk jeopardising their agreement with ESS etc.
