Just putting a post here for future reference and if others have issues and are searching.

I occasionally import a student or staff photo for in-year admissions etc. I've been having real trouble with a) knowing what size to import (ratio) and also my real problem which is b) photo quality going bitty or blocky.

a) resize to 768x1024 (4:3 ratio)

b) I've tried various programmes but anyway if you download IrfanView which is a free image programme, you can resize. I have finally found the issue - if I save with the EXIF data the photo in SIMS looks bad (even though the photo to look at is perfect). If I save without EXIF data it is perfect in SIMS too. See screenshot for Irfanview settings I now use - notice I have unticked the Keep original EXIF data. This 100% works, I don't know why; it seems SIMS somehow goes off the original EXIF data and it screws it.

I have similar issues with photos rotating when uploaded into SIMS and have to open/save them. Assumed it was to do with EXIF data, presumably this would solve that issue too.
