karldenton Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Hello We have recently gone 1:1 devices and pupils will be taking them home shortly. We have a few that don't have access to wifi at home. Just wondering how others have gone about solving that. Have you provided dongles? Had a company talk about wifi-meshing with large companies that don't use their allowance but I think that will be lengthy to setup. Thanks
simpsonj Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 We've provided a MiFi device with a 4G SIM card that the school pays for. Seems to have worked quite well.
PotNoodleTech Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Originally did Mifi devices for the few that really didn't have an access to anything.
Rob_D Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 We've still got some of the mobile hotspots the DfE provided during lockdown that we've recommissioned for if students (or staff) need them.
XiJ Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Thinking out loud here but there are some social tariffs that are for those on certain benefits domestically. I wonder if it’s possible to have the household sign up for that - even if school pay.
phil0569 Posted December 12, 2023 Posted December 12, 2023 Look at the LGFL mobile, just for data it's quite cheep, if the school are paying for it they charge 12 months in advance, so no messing around with monthly bills.
David44 Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 Ethernet cable All the way back to school? What if the student lives 5 miles away and there are roads, rivers and wild horses between home and school?
Rob_D Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 All the way back to school? What if the student lives 5 miles away and there are roads, rivers and wild horses between home and school? Well, you'll need fiber for that distance ( )
mavhc Posted December 13, 2023 Posted December 13, 2023 All the way back to school? What if the student lives 5 miles away and there are roads, rivers and wild horses between home and school? Said no wifi, not no internet connection
