Estimated price for a second hand Gaming PC - highish spec

Just looking for some thoughts on value of second hand PC with specs along the lines of:

 

Ryzen 7 5800X3D

32GB DDR4

ASUS RTX 3090 Ti

ASUS X570-F Board#

A couple of SSD giving 1.5 TB

PSU CORSAIR 1000W

Thanks. They buyer would be me/my son as an Xmas present - with my sons savings being the bigger contribution. It's local collection only which helps reduce competition - and avoids damage in transit!

It's pretty much same spec as my own gaming pcs except I've got a Radeon 6900XT rather than a 3090.

 

Fly's in 1440p games and will totally demolish 1080p.

 

What screen/res are you thinking of using?

Looking at past eBay sold listings, just the GPU and CPU alone are fetching over £1000 together...!

 

I would say it's a very good deal, like others have said - it will smash 1440p and probably run 4k on most titles quite comfortably.

Nice build for the price. Make sure you get a decent monitor to go with it! 1440p is very nice!

Just be careful with buying second hand computers. A lot of people end up not being able to play games because the previous owner was banned and they tend to ban based on hardware IDs these days so you can't just go create an alt account.

Big bro' does most of that and the younger is fairly self-sufficient! Both of them (14 & 16) are doing a fair bit of programming in Python already - I've trained them well!

That's a really good point. I hadn't given it a thought yet, but might be something to look at next April (birthday) if the purchase goes. I'll probably be back then if things pan out!

Looks like the targeted PC is going to be too expensive. If you were buying a gaming PC new (self-build and option but for simplicity probably going for built), what suppliers would you recommended. For example, this from ebuyer, who I have used for components before, is £900 would seem to be well spec'd. e.g.

• NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060

No, but happy to hear of any suggestions. As it turned out, the PC that I first give spec on went for fifty pounds shy of £1500 - too high for me and ultimately the machine is over specced for our needs. Besides, I reckon I could build the same spec for less with a mixture of new and used parts.

You could look at one of our HP Z4 G4's. Excellent W11 Compatible Xeon options, good ram and ssd choices and a beefy psu for your favourite choice of gfx card.

 

Take a look at our sister site, bargain hardware to work out a spec/price. Then if you want one, come to me direct and I'll do the same price as BH but with an extended warranty for no additional charge.
