Unable to extend volume on Server Manager

Hi all,

 

I am attempting to extend the volume on my c: on Server Manager.

 

The error comes up as "Extend Failed - Error extending volume: Not enough available capacity Activity ID: {75dab509-0078-4f8a-a030-5c0f067d534e}.

 

I definitely know I have spare unallocated space on the disk available.

 

Could you assist please.

Is there another partition between the one you are trying to extend and the free space on the disk? Have you got the numbers right - definitely not trying to extend 1024gb when you should be trying to extend 1024mb?

 

If there is a partition between your C and the free space, then you will need to use a 3rd party tool like GParted to move it in front of the C partition, or delete it if you aren't going to need it.

Is this a VM. Have you tried rescanning the disks since increasing the virtual disk?

There is a partition in between the c: and the unallocated space. It is where I store my data so very important.

I'd always take a full backup, but I've never had a problem with the Minitool, Gparted or Easeus Partition Magic tools.

 

Worth saying that if it's a data partition rather than a recovery partition, it probably needs to be moved to the end of the drive after the unallocated space, rather than in front of the C drive, which will possibly cause you to break the machines ability to boot.
