Hi All,

We are currently running Mac OS Mojave on our macs currently and they were never updated and they work well. These are managed through JamF school and are active directory bound with UNC home profiles.

However, we are trying to update to a newer version of Mac OS Monterey and it gets stuck spinning after trying to log in.

I have tried turning off the UNC path option on the macs and using local home profiles and it logs straight in with no issues which makes it seem likes its having issues loading the home profile.

I have tried deleting the home profile so its blank incase it was corrupt, giving the user full access to the share and still getting stuck.

Is anyone running macs active directory bound with a newer OS and with UNC paths?

Or has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

With MacOS, In suites i've always done a wipe before updating the OS. Mainly as gives the device a fresh start, might be worth wiping one to see you're able.

Hi, Thanks this is what I have done I will give it another go as I have changed quite a few settings since. Have you got a similar setup?

The company I work for had a similar issue. Our Macs are AD bound managed by Mosyle.

The issue for us was that our aniti virus protection and Monterey.

As soon as any machine didn't have anti virus then it would log in etc, with it installed it took forever to log in.

We also had it on Ventura.

Our software engineers wrote a script that basically stopped the antivirus running until after the user logged in and connected to the internal network. So far we have had no issues!

Hey, thanks for sharing your update! I'm new around here, and it's awesome to see this community come together to troubleshoot tech glitches. I've had my share of tangled moments too.Kudos for trying out various fixes, like tinkering with home profiles and UNC paths. It's a puzzle, for sure! Regarding Active Directory-bound Macs with UNC paths, I've seen a few cases where updating to a newer OS version caused similar issues. Have you tried a clean install of Monterey instead of an update? Starting afresh can dodge those pesky profile-loading problems. Also, if it's not too much trouble, reaching out to JamF support might yield some useful insights—they're usually wizards at untangling these knots. Keep us posted on any breakthroughs!

Hi,

I have force local home directory's unchecked and I have the UNC path from active directory set instead.

I wouldn’t do that. You can use the AD home path for their docs no problem (unless you use Logic/PT/FCP etc) but you still need to force a local home directory or they’re awful/impossible to use (at least in my experience).

This can lead to the disks filling up, so be aware of it.
