Anyone else in here got EERO's standard router and use smart sockets.

 

I know I can temp disable the 5Ghz signal so only 2.4Ghz is running but even when doing that I cannot get smart sockets to find the network. Never had this before the EERO was put in.

Which smart sockets? I used the tp link ones and they work fine

I have the meross smart plug and that seems find talking to airkit over eero, one combo which legend (well edgelords on reddit) suggests ought to be troublesome.

I wish city fibre were building near me but I am not sure they cover the Glens of Antrim.

It just so happens that with Toob over City Fibre, the fastest also happens to be pretty much the cheapest at £25 a month for 900mbps.

 

We don't have any copper into my house as Openreach took it away almost 15 years ago. My lodger at the time was paying the bill on it to have his own internet connection. I've always used a long range bridge to my parents half a mile away. He moved out and just stopped paying! Openreach quoted us over £3k to put it back in because they took it out in huff over payment so we never bothered reinstating it and waited for City Fibre to install!

I've been with VM for many years now (since at least the NTL days), iirc when I bought my house 25 years ago we had a BT line, but I changed to NTL/VM as soon as I could. I was chuffed when I found out the cab on the path 2 doors down from me was the VM cab! We've had various issues over the years, mainly in the early NTL days and at the beginning of VM (but to be fair it's been fairly solid since) and back then I did toy with the idea of moving back to BT or at least a provider that uses their network.

However, when I queried the possibility of it, I was told it would cost extra as I'd been disconnected from the exchange. There are no poles around where I live and so I guess it has always been a cable in the ground (not sure if it's even still there, but this was in the late 90s though and as we've not been a customer since I doubt any of that has ever been upgraded?) and I have no clue where the nearest exchange (or cab) is for BT.

 

We get internet and TV from VM on the lowest possible package but it's still over £70 p.m. but I think as a new SKY customer or similar I could be looking at saving £30 p.m. The trouble is the OH is WFH and can't really have a poor service or days and days of disruption...

Yep. I now have the fastest connection our supplier can do. But not because I want it but rather because they foolishly rang up and spoke to my partner about renewing the contract. She's very difficult to negotiate with for that kind of thing and we now get their fastest connection for marginally less money than we were paying for their mid-range connection. Bet they'll ask for me next time as I am not as strict as her to deal with!

Well suppose that 150/30 for £27.99 is not a bad deal. Should be taken down to £26.99 and getting the gift card as I phone up when i saw a better Black Friday deal.
