Hi all

The school has Inventry as their sign in system in reception. The business manager is now looking into installing fob/card security access for all doors. Initially they are looking at the product offered by Inventry to tie it all together. Has anyone been in a similar position and can recommend the best cost effective way of adding a secure access system onto Inventry please? Is it worth looking at Paxton and the other competitors instead?

I can't comment on Inventry's offer, I know there is some Paxton integration, with the sign in solutions. Are they offering their own door controllers now?

Either way I would recommend Paxton all day long for door access.

Yeah I've seen the Paxton integration. All I know so far is the business manager has arranged for Inventry to come in during half term to spec up door security etc using id cards. Lucky I caught wind of it..

We use the Paxton integration. Can be a headache when it goes wrong sometimes but it's very good to use. The real headache though will be card printing. We do it in-house but others outsource it.

We already have some sort of card printing to go with the Inventry system but I don't know yet how that would change if we had door access. Chip? barcode? Not sure.

If it's any help we use a barcode on the card itself. All cards have unique numbers and assigned to people and they just swipe it through a reader. With Paxton you can see who's used what gate/door.

We had Paxton installed over the summer, it was all arranged by Inventry and they were my point of contact. The system simply works well, not had any problems from the day it was installed.

Sounds promising. Do you use ID Cards too?

We use the Salto system and have just been looking at sign in systems recently. When I spoke with Inventry they said they integrate with Salto so this could be an option too.

My advice would be try to have it all done by one system rather than integrating several different systems from several different vendors - it gets messy especially if something stops working and the vendors stat playing "the blame game".

Paxton is a great system, haven't used the Inventry integration however have looked at the demo at Bett and was a powerful tool for data etc. I would recommend spec'ing them with the mifare readers as you can do more with the cards (plus you'll likely find mifare cards cheaper than the Paxton Hitag2 cards). Giving staff fobs and/or cards may be an option especially if trying to encourage them to sign out as many put their lanyards/photo ID away before they leave.

TLDR the cost of a mifare reader will be much cheaper in the long run than being tied into Paxton cards
