[sims] Edulink - Staff with Children at same School

Hi all,

 

Just a quick question.

 

We've just linked with Edulink, which is great, but I have some staff that are parents of children in the school, and thus have two elements to their staff profile - staff and contact. Is there a way to split the profiles easily rather than making a new contact one?

We have created two profiles. If a member of staff does not log in as a parent they will not receive any messages specific to their child or see any forms or be able to book and attend parents evenings.

We learned this the hard way!

We are experiencing the same. Spent years getting rid of "multiple instances of the same person" and Edulink suggests we should go back to that nightmare. So far I can't see a way around. @SchoolDM What do you mean you have created "2 profiles"?

We have created two records in SIMS when a person is a member of staff and a contact. EduLink One is far from the only product that doesn't handle this situation well when the person only has one record.

 

It stems from the fact that SIMS only allows you to set the primary email on the joint record rather than setting a primary email for the contact element and a different primary email for the staff element. As EduLink One, and many other products, requires staff to have their school email address as primary and contacts to have their personal email address as primary, two records is the only way to achieve this. It's actually what ESS recommends now too.

 

Another thing to look out for is that two (or more) contacts can't have the same email address in EduLink One even though SIMS allows this. Look out for things like [email protected] and change it for one of the contacts.

We've stuck with one profile on SIMS. Edulink then creates an employee username and a separate parent username, all linked to the same primary email address. They can easily switch between both on the login page. The only negative is that parental communication goes to their work email address, but it doesn't seem to be an issue here.
