carlk2008 Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 Hello wondering if someone could help, We've had a new Wifi solution installed (ubiquity) over the summer holidays. Since having it installed we've been getting so many complaints from Staff and Guests & students also but not too fussed about them about the lack of phone signal around the school. Was perfectly fine before installation. I totally understand that Interference could be a key player but I'm just wondering has anyone else had any issues and how they rectified it. Thanks
andy_b Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 I think that would be extremely unlikely given they operate on different frequencies and its just a co-incidence. We had staff accuse us of installing "3g/4g" signal blockers. Turned out there was a broken O2 mast and no one on O2 had a signal inside the building.
Net-Ctrl Posted May 4, 2023 Posted May 4, 2023 (edited) Hi Carl, if you're using the Wi-Fi for VOIP you ideally need signal performance around -62dBm. Depending on the size of your site it could be worth getting an on-site survey conducted to see what performance you're getting from the new solution - it may be that you need to add in a few more APs which the report would highlight. There may be some QoS settings in Ubiquiti you can play around with to prioritise VOIP on defined SSIDs - not something I am familiar with so will leave others to comment on that. EDIT - Apologies judging by other posts- looks like I misinterpreted the post Edited May 4, 2023 by Net-Ctrl 1

Thanks We had something similar. After much pestering (EE's network is very much Not My Problem), I eventually gave in and I phoned one of their support line, and some how got escalated to an operative who could see the maintenance schedule and current activity... the conversation went like "yeah we did maintenance on that around the time you saying your site lost signal, but its all signed off as completed, so it can't be that. No. Wait. There's no activity from there at all.... for weeks.... oh yeah that does look like our problem. I've flagged it so it should be fixed in a few days" It was fixed within hours. It had been offline for *months*. 1
PotNoodleTech Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 It's far more likely to be an issue with your local 4g mast(s).
chazzy2501 Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 Could it be that users previously have been using the (Wi-Fi Calling) that is built into phones all this time (whilst always having poor 3g/4g reception) and the new Ubiquiti setup has spoiled that somehow. AND they were unaware they were using that feature. Does the new wifi have a different key and or a portal login that stops traffic...etc.
MatthewL Posted May 5, 2023 Posted May 5, 2023 I did wonder that @chazzy2501, if its a new SSID and phones no longer connected to it.
