We're currently try to figure out why the HP L7780/7680 is having problems with Digital Filing using a server login to connect to a Win Server 2k3 share compared with a server 2k.

Ref: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/hardware/21868-hp-l7780-all-one-digital-filing-server-203-a.html

The latter works without problem whilst the Win 2k3 server just doesn't want to know and the printer throws up errors about incorrect username and password.

If it helps we also know that if you setup a share on a WinXP workstation and then use a local user login for that the digital filing system works perfectly.

So, what we're trying to find out is what's changed in Windows 2003 that would bork things in this way. Any help would be appreciated..

I'd assume it's similar to the problems we encountered with Macs/shares when we first switched to 2K3 (bit of a learning curve, only got 2K3 as the old server died, no preparation, learning everything at speed!) - I believe the requirement for digital signing is off by default in server 2K and on by default in 2K3.

Give the same steps as below a go and see if it plays nice. If it's still no go you can always knock them back up again.

I can confirm this works... Tested on HP L7680.

One little niggle to be aware of... the default domain controller policy explicitly sets

Computer -> Administrative Tools -> Domain Controller Security Policy

* Microsoft Network Server: Digitally sign communications (always): ENABLED

* Microsoft Network Server: Digitally sign communications (if client agrees): ENABLED

So you really need to remove or change the policy there to get this to work for the server (if it's Domain controlled).

The comments in the article do include one pointing out that this change is required for scan to network functionality on other printers so definitely an excellent find.

Thanks again...

Would 2k3 users not also have to have pre-2000 logins, and also be members of the pre-windows 2000 users compatibility group?
