Spent £1,000 on Amazon, got Evri delivery... Mysteriously gone.

Normally I haven't had a problem with Evri and wondered what everyone was going on about. But today I was recieving a new AMD 7900 XTX GPU I'd ordered from Amazon worth £1,000. I've saved up for ages to buy this. I ordered it from Amazon US and it eventually was delivered 2 weeks later by Evri.

 

It was a tiny box and was left in my back garden. I have CCTV but all 4 of my camera's motion detection was somehow avoided. Got home, opened the parcel which I knew already wasn't what I ordered and video'd the whole thing. Instead I recieved a sample of aftershave.

 

It's quite clear that my original label was ripped off my parcel and re-applied to this one as the label is torn in places. The weight of the original label also said close to 3kg but upon weighing the contents I recieved it was around 100grams.

 

I've reported it to the police, had to have legnthy conversations with Amazon and now have to return the 'dodgy' item back to Amazon before they'll refund me. I'm also going to have to let my credit card company know.

 

The Evri driver didn't even ring my doorbell and must've known where all 4 of my cameras are located before he even delivered it as he avoided every single one. Not impressed and I'll be boycotting any company that uses them. It's cause me loads of distress and now I've got to spend hours of my time trying to get my money back.

 

I've heard it's more of a regional issue and some don't have any problems whilst others have loads? Sorry needed a rant I'm so annoyed.

I have had a few run ins with Evri, as has my neighbour. The last few packages have just been thrown out by the front door or delivered to a house on a different street. My neighbour had a package delivered but the delivery person picked up another package that was outside of her door and took it with him!

 

I am still waiting for a delivery from them for something they confirmed they had received at the end of March...

+1 for using a credit card here, because it's covered by a section 75 claim.

If you have any trouble with Amazon, just call the cc company and explain it was a breach of contract because the goods didn't arrive. The credit card company will refund the money.

Good to know I'm not alone, thanks for sharing! Just seems awful service and seems quite common with regards to stealing packages especially high value items.

Yeah I'm lucky I did, I didn't use it for that reason actually, even though I had the money it weirds me out to see £1,000 come out my account and I haven't got a car to show for it lol so I used my credit card to pay £250 off each month as it's 0% interest anyway.

 

Luckily for me though it brings those extra protections.

Ouch! Hope you get it sorted.

 

The only problem we've had with Evri (touches wood) has been their overoptimistic delivery times. Otherwise David (our local guy) seems OK.

I ordered an ipad but got a book by david jason and 2 chocolate bars. I expect these items weighed the same. Mine was a pickup from Waitrose. The box was fine, so the theft happened at the Amazon warehouse.

 

Chargeback using the chargeback form on natwest site (natwest cc) They gave me a conditional refund the next day! I then had to prove that, I'd returned the (wrong) item (and that I'd tried to get Amazon to do something about it).

 

EDIT: Amazon did dispute the chargeback but I showed that they'd collected the "wrong item", then it went into limbo! (I waited 30 days for Amazon to sort it, Amazon said I had to wait a further 2 and a half months) Lucky I could find the return delivery graphic (for chocolates and book), through Amazons own robot helper (as it didn't appear in orders)...

 

The order is still pending refund on Amazons site 4 months now..

Chargeback is voluntary, and usually used for debit cards. With credit cards use a section 75 claim as it's backed by UK law as the CC company is legally required to reimburse you if there is a breach of contract. If you are buying anything worth over £100 then it's good advice to use a credit card for this added legal protection.

I bought a Hisense 55" TV from Amazon - with a debit card not credit card, it arrived OK but when I turned it on it had odd faint horizontal lines through the display, 2 days later it died. I eventually got my money back but it took almost 2 months and I was without a good monitor the whole time (I use a large TV / monitor as my main PC display as my eyesight isn't too good, I bought it to replace an Acer 48.5" monitor that died 2 weeks after warranty). The only way I could contact Amazon support was over some chat, then 4 days later I got a call from a repair company, they had a slot 2 weeks later to pick it up for repairs. They pick it up and 2 weeks later they ring me back and say it can't be fixed and they'll return it, and I need to contact Amazon. 2 weeks later I get the broken unit back and a code I can use with Amazon to get them to pick it up. 2 weeks later they pick it up and I get my money back.

 

So I did get my money back eventually but wasted 2 months without a good display. And the comms was awful so I had no idea what was going on half the time. IMO buying expensive items off amazon is a total gamble, it's good for cheap tat only. I bought one from a local curries after getting my money back, that failed about 14 months in but at least they managed to get it fixed in about 10 days.

If the CCTV has nothing to show then id argue no delivery has been made still unless the driver can prove it somehow.

 

I did notice alot of this type of stuff going on when the Playstation 5 came out and people was receiving all sorts of stuff but not the playstations.

 

As much as im not a fan of Evri i think Amazon are as much to be blamed on this as they clearly dont do enough checks ect

My neighbour was "lucky" with his bad luck. I got home the other day, to see him talking to Amazon driver, holding a box, and driver is on mobile.

 

the driver is on the phone to Amazon, as when he rang the doorbell, my neighbour answered, but said the box is too light, should have a laptop in it.

so he opened box in front of driver, no laptop, so the driver phoned amazon.

I heard the driver say there was no signs of damage to box, and he doesn't know what is inside them

 

haven't had chance to see neighbour yet to find out what happened.

 

I saw on BBC that Amazon haven't been too helpful, until BBc contacted them about various cases.

 

I guess Amazon are worried now about ppl taking the mick and trying to pull a fast one about wrong goods etc

They took photo proof of the parcel on their tracking, I was out at the time and they delivered it around 8pm. I knew just by looking at the photo that something wasn't right as it was smaller than my wheelie bin wheel next to it. I have a Blink doorbell though so he never rang that or even attempted to go up to my front door, it also has quite wide viewing angles and picks people up walking down my path so he must have come in out of sight somehow. I then also have an outdoor Blink camera pointing at my Wheelie bins down the side of my house and neither picked him up so he must have been very careful to not open my gate very wide and chucked the parcel towards my bins, then he must've took the proof picture whilst hiding between the crack of my gate.

 

The only way I could think of that he possible missed all my cameras.

 

It could be Amazon I guess but the parcels label has the correct weight on it and the weight was scanned when moving from the US to the UK. It wasn't scanned when it was handed to Evri so I think they're the culprit.

Just be aware that section 75 isn't necessarily guaranteed. Third party sellers (e.g. Amazon Marketplace) don't qualify.

Thanks. It was Amazon US I purchased it off though so still sold by Amazon just shipped from the US.

 

Do you know whether this applies to me?

 

Sadly i dont believe this would qualify as Amazon are the 3rd party,

You could look to do a charge back though.

If your gonna order from amazon make sure it's a) prime and b) coming from amazon's UK warehouse.

 

Anything else is just going to increase the risk.

 

Ordering from the US is especially risky.

To be fair, the printed carriage weight on the label sounds about right for a GPU, so with that plus the label damage, it would appear the correct item was shipped.

Maybe the company cheaped out and shipped it without a box, so anybody involved in carriage could see the contents, someone recognised what it was (and how much they could flip it for on ebay), and did the ol' switcharoo.

With some digging (and carrier co-operation) you might be able to pin down where the switch was made, but good luck with that.

Can you tell if the aftershave is US or UK? Might be a starting point.

It was a UK brand but is also sold in the US. I'm not sure, it could be anywhere along the way I guess.

 

It was Prime so I got the shipping for free and as it was still from Amazon themselves albeit from a US warehouse I didn't think there would be much of a risk.

 

I'll update when I hear back but I won't be happy if I'm waiting as long for the refund as some of the others on here. I'll be chasing them come Monday. I've always thought ordering high value items was safe from Amazon as previous purchases I've never had a problem with. I've learnt a lesson though. I was only trying to save £50 at the time as it was slightly cheaper than going to Scan.

 

I reordered it via Scan and it came today (Next Day) free shipping via DPD. Brilliant experience.
