cookie_monster Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Currently using Quicktime 7.2 (sigh) which i deploy with an mst file to control settings unfortunatly there are still a few settings (auto update, tray icon) that need to be set using the QuickTime.qtp file in the profile. Has anything changed with the later version can you now set these options in the msi or mst file? Cheers.
Michael Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 To answer your question directly I don't know, but these settings are most likely stored in the registry at machine level. It might be easier to modify the registry?
cookie_monster Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 You can 'kill' the tray icon at registry level but when you run the program it's magically re written joy if no QuickTime.qtp file is found then a 'default' one is created. This file is the boss it doesn't seem to use registry entries for these settings, each time you make a settings change this file is updated.
Michael Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 You could try searching on Apple's website for a FAQ or guide relating to Quicktime's QuickTime.qtp. This should show you all the possible parameters/switches.
Michael Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Alternatively have you thought about Quicktime alternative? I've used Real alternative in the past and it works well. A lot less hassle and bloat.
cookie_monster Posted July 11, 2008 Author Posted July 11, 2008 (edited) I thought Apple put a stop to Quicktime alternative. I like Real Alt but haven't found a way to package it into an MSI with Wininstall LE I'm familiar with the QuickTime.qtp file and how to use it but i'm hoping (with the new ver) Apple will move away from it as it's a royal pain to manage in a network environment, i basically want to be able to turn off auto updates and tray icons using the mst file. It's so annoying that you can manage most features with the mst but not these important settings. Edited July 11, 2008 by cookie_monster
