Sanity Check For Enterprise E3 Licensing

Hi guys im going to be buying Enterprise Mobility + Security E3 licenses but on the quote from the supplier it says Enterprise Mobility + Security A3 for Students.

 

Is this the same product and I take it its not for staff just students?

E3 = Enterprise, A3 = Education. Just different organization applicability, but the same product essentially.

 

If i remember correctly, you pay for staff FTE with that one and get however many students you want alongside. Seem to remember i was paying for 96 staff licenses when i had EM&S and had 1500 student licenses, but you just pay for the staff side.

Thanks both, we have a less than 80 pupils on the register as we are a PRU and the staff network is a separate entity run by the council. From reading that I would only need to but 2 365 A5 Licenses and would have two staff licenses and 80 pupils.

 

Have I read that correct?

Officially not really

 

You get 40 licenses per staff (if full coverage of EQU), so if you’re only paying one staff but using 40 students it’s not really covered as you’re using the student use benefit without covering EQU

We have roughly 80 pupils that will need a license and we have about 5-6 staff that will need a license.

 

What is it I need to get to allow me in the tenant to apply an E3/A3 or E5/A5 licenses to everyone.

 

We don't have many staff using the pupils network as they all have a separate network run by another organisation.

That line is likely to be a reseller description, as it doesn’t look like that on CSP normally

 

But if it’s just a standard Microsoft A5 for Faculty then no it won’t give the SuB by default

 

They need to add those on, but it’s a free license to add

 

Looking on our CSP catalog it shows up as

 

“Microsoft 365 A5 for faculty

Microsoft 365 A5 for students use benefit”

 

As the two A5 versions (or A3 etc)

 

With faculty being paid monthly/annual, and free for students one

 

So when placing an order I’d say 6x and 240x etc

you purchase "paid" faculty licenses, then ask the reseller to give you X student. These appear as a zero cost line, so in your case you will get 6 faculty with a cost and 240 student with no cost. These licenses appear in your admin portal and you assign the rules accordingly so that "staff" OU/Group get the faculty licenses and "pupil" OU/Group get the student ones. This will happen automatically ( the same are you are probably doing with your A1 free - it is no different) Edited June 5, 2023 by KK20

Can I check what everyone does for licences for Governors? We've been advised that any member of staff / volunteer that would need access to 365 would need a licence, could get very expensive!

You can just allocate them the free licenses.
